It would probably save the government quite a bit of money because coins can last 20 years while the dollar bills last only 18 months or so. The downside is that most people hate coins. Often wallets don't even come with a coin pouch, so it's tough to figure out where to put coins. The cost is probably worth the convenience.

The main problem with the one- and two-dollar coins is the fact that it makes your change purse or pocket a LOT heavier, because you end up with MORE coins, and they're BIGGER.
