Well if you remember back in the 80's, the fear was Japan was buying all of our land and businesses because they were flexing their new found wealth. Well that dried up faster than a snowflake in Phoenix.
Don't worry. China is strong for the moment, but they dont' have resources to sustain it. |

The national debt to China is enormous, our trade deficit with China is also enormous. However, since China is a communist country, any acquisitions of US major companies can be and hopefully will be rejected by the US Trade Commission.
If you shop at Walmart, 80% or more of the goods sold there are made in China. America is the shoppers of the world and China is America's manufacturer. We can boycott by not buying goods made in China but their products are cheaper than US made or made in any developped countries. With our current economic conditions and high unemployment, we can hardly boycott the cheaper products, can we? It feels like we are between the rock and the hard place. |

China and Japan have been buying up our debt (in the form of Treasury Bills) for more than twenty years. There is absolutely nothing new about this. The Chinese would love to buy larger shares of American banks but they have been limited by the government also, the banks won't grant seats on the board of directors to Chinese investors so the Chinese haven't become a major factor in banking in the US. The Chinese haven't been investing heavily in American businesses, they actually prefer investing in their own businesses. |
