I was not aware that there was any statutory leave for this in the U.K. I thought that it was up to the generosity of your employer whether or not you were paid.I am sure that most employers understand about this sort of thing,employers are people too. I am really sorry for your loss, I was heart broken when my grand-mother died. |

My husband gets paid 5 days if the family member that has passed away lives nearby. If they live out of state and going to a funeral requires travel, he gets two weeks. |

Sorry to hear about your loss. Don't know about statutory leave as I am a housewife.
My Grandad died in August. My husband's boss was very understanding and allowed him a few days off for the funeral as It was a distance away. But then he works for a small company and his boss is a fried of my family!!
Maybe your boss would be understanding. If not best to speak to someome high up in your work's company and ask!! I am sure they can give you at least a week around the fueral especially if you have a distance to travel!!

If you need time off to cope with a situation that doesn’t fall under the ‘time off for dependants’ right, you may have a right to time off under your contract of employment. Many employers will have a scheme for compassionate leave and details should be included in your contract or company handbook. If the situation is not covered by any scheme then you can still ask your employer for the time off, although they do not have to agree to your request |

There is no statutory compassionate leave.
You need to check with your employer and your contract.
Most of the firms I've worked for ( in the Logistics world ) give 3 days for a close friend or family.
Is down to the manager to decide if Grandparents are close family or not. I'd say they were. |
