No store "has" to sale anything. They can refuse a sale. If you don't have better change, you're out of luck. They reserve the right to tell you to go get proper change and come back or else they can't sell you the item.
No company can go bankrupt over something frivolous as this. |

They wouldn't accept the check. They'd hand it back to you and tell you to write one out for the correct amount.
Even if they did accept it, if they can't/don't cash it they don't owe you anything.
If you give them a check you can't afford you have signalled an intent to pay them that amount. They could bankrupt you. You might, at least, be accused of fraud as (in the UK, not sure about the USA) knowingly writing out a check that you have insufficient funds to pay is a criminal offence. |

why would you give a dollar store a check for 400 million dollars and expect cash back? most stores have limits on how much cash back you can get anyways. |

the store would not go bankrupt as they wouldnt have to accept the check and they wouldnt be expected to cash the check for the customer. if they dont have enough change the shop isnt really refusing the sale just refusing such a large check |
|

blahblahblahblahblah

Most stores have a limit on how much you can write a check over for, the dollar stores around me do not let you write a check over the amount of your purchase |

nope ... cannot happen ... |

Personally, I think they would call your bluff and bounce your check, thus making you look foolish. |

first of all u donot have that kind of money and secondaly no store will accept sugh a big cheque. if at all they accept a cheque they would take it for the exact amount. and secondaly in the precsent recession hit usa no store has that kind of money with them |

1. They don't have to sell you anything or they will just not accept the check.
2. They could technically bankrupt you because you could be charged with fraud. :) |

Just give $5 check and get $4 back!!! |

If you wrote a check for an amount like that and did not have the funds that would be criminal... literally.. and could be arrested...
I don't care where you went if you had a item that you bought like lets say for 10.00 and wrote a check for 50.00 and it bounced... you are liable..
Look up the story on Susan Summers and the spending problem she had along with the legal problems due to this ... |

no. the store would simply refuse the sale & probably call the cops because the check writer is 99.9999999999999999% (we'll leave just a little room to account for the eccentric billionaire factor) trying to commit fraud. I doubt the bank would even honor that check inside of 3 days as they checked the availability of funds. |

Well, if your not the queen or elvis I wouldnt think that you wouldn't stand a chance cashing a cheque for that amount of money, and dont worry about the banks, they insure everything, thats why we are all poor, hope that helps, goodluck! :) |

Five finger discount might work better... |

No. The store simply will not accept a check that large. I can't imagine *any* business doing something as stupid as accepting a check that large and giving back change. |
|

littleamylouise
 |
Yeah that's not even logical to think that... |

lol, no! They wouldn't accept the check even if they could give you the change since it is a little suspiscious and looks like money laundering!! |
|

Smiley24

Nope! If you study accounting, you will learn that their journal entry will be something like this:
Debit Cash 400,000,000
Credit Accounts Payable 399,999,999
Credit Sales 1
They have the asset from the check you just gave them so even if they accept your check and you have enough balance, the transaction still won't lead to bankruptcy. |

Stores usually have a policy of no personal checks. If by chance they do accept them, which I doubt, they wouldn't accept it for 1 dollar. |
