I have ALMOST fallen into the craigslist scam (the one from Nigeria). If I do receive the Post Office 'money order' what should I do with it? I know NOT to cash it, but would it be worth something to any authorities? Could I be a victim of identity theft because of this in the future?

It's a scam so i am going to assume that the money order wouldn't be real or trace-able so, i would just go ahead and throw it out or shred it. If you only gave them your address, i don't think they can do any identity theft with just your name and address, but i could be wrong. I had the same thing happen to me - "i am a buyer for my client" ... jeez!!! Good luck! |

This is the typical 419 scammer. Go to the forum at www.419eater.com and post the money order as a trophy for others to see. The 419eater.com website is ran by scambaiters who in turn scam the scammer back. The theory behind this is that the more time of a scammer's you waste, the less time he has to scam another person. I'm sure you find some of the letters quite amusing as well. As far as being a victim of identity, I wouldn't worry about it. The scammer is far too stupid to do anything, not to mention that all he has is your address which wont do him any good. Do not give the money order to authorites, because they are well aware of the scam already. |

I was in that situation once, if the person ask u about money order, tell them that you haven't received! ..... meanwhile call that bank or financial institue, I think they will handle it better than locan law enforcement since they want to protect themselves and their customers.

It's a worthless piece of paper. Keep it as a curiosity item. US police probably cannot or will not do anything about it anyway since it involves a foreign country. |
