Sutra | Did I cursed ? |
Ok, A customer got very mad at me because i said to one of my employees that " I'm very Pissed Off " The customer said i was using unappropriate language infront of her 10 years old son, and that's very unacceptable.
I wasn't even speaking to her I was far away having a coversation with one of my employees, I have no idea on how she got involved in it.
Did I really cursed?. |

The word is often considered "offensive" language. Pfft, well, as if anyone could actually be "offended" by that word. The N-word can offend, sure, but not "pissed off!" It's not "nice" language, it's not "proper", as in not a good idea to use in certain situations, but seriously! What's her deal?! If you were far away, if it was not her conversation, and not about her, then fine!
God, and children should not be so sheltered from bad language. Young children, yeah, so they don't start spurting it off without knowing the possible meanings and consequences. But her son is ten. That's certainly old enough to have heard curse words before, to understand them, and be explained why one might not want to use the language. As a parent, she might want to take her son aside and explain to him that it's inappropriate (for her, not my opinion), and unless you're yelling swear words and making threats, you should damn well say what you please! |

You might try saying that you are very upset or teed off.Especially if you are among other people. but I have heard a lot worse things than that. I hope I didn't offend you with my answer. |

It can be considered inappropriate, at a work place. |

I wouldn't be offended, but I would advise against saying "piss" in front of a customer.
Ironically, I have the word "piss" on my resume, because it's in the title of a poem I got published once. But most of the time I don't even send the publications page when it's for something day-job-related. |

Not a curse word. Maybe profane, but no cursing involved. |

its not a curse word, but its not exactly appropriate for all situations either. i work at an elementary school, and i wouldnt use it infront of the kids that age i work with. i wouldnt think twice about saying it infront of my friends though. i think its fine, and she overreacted but you might just want to make sure you dont use language like that infront of customers just in case. |

"pissed" is not exactly a swear word, however many people consider it foul language. i have a friend at school who is VERY sheltered and i find i need to censor myself a LOT when i'm around her. depending on where you work you should be more aware of the customers and their beliefs....she may either be really sheltered....sheltering her child....or over-sensitive |

Yes. "Pissed Off" would be the offending term. If the mother heard you, then she had a right to speak up and ask you to please watch how you talk around her son. As a customer, she has every right to enjoy a non-offenive visit to your store. |

I would not define what you said as cursing, but I can see the customers point of view.
Everyone in this world has a differing opinion as to what they feel is appropriate/inappropriate especially when it involves the presence of children. Some parents are happy to use all manner of colourful language in front of their children, whereas some are extremely careful which words they expose their children to.
People also have differing views on customer service and professionalism. If in doubt, treat every customer as though any coloquial or slang language may offend. It seems more professional, and minimises the risk of this matter occuring again.
Even though you were speaking to your colleague, remember that human nature makes us inquisitive. If you were dealing with a matter the customer brought up, they will be inclined to try and listen what you say about it to your fellow work-mates.
Maybe the customer was just having a bad day, and you were the closest person to take her frustrations out on. Either way, don't beat yourself up over it, and consider it a lesson for the future!! |

Different people have different levels of "appropriateness" of language, especialy around kids. What you might feel is mild, may be more offensive to someone with a more conservative background. If you are in a setting with "customers" you do need to be careful what is said, even if it may not seem bad to you. Remember in an area where customers are present, anything in earshot should be appropriate for all ages. What if the child was 3 or 4 years old and repeated your pissed off comment. |
