They are usually right. However, I always check mine. Keep the money separate from your other money, and check it later in a safe place. So long as you know the approximate time, and which ATM you used, if there is a problem then it is possible to trace it back and check. If in doubt, press the button to ask for a slip with your withdrawal transaction.
ATMs record every transaction. If there is a problem dispensing money it knows and records it. There is also a bad notes 'bin' inside, so if a note gets stuck it gets redirected there. So if you were a tenner short, it might have gone in that bin and the people that look after the ATM money would know that someone was short by a tenner. |

I disagree. You must count your money.
ATMs not only sometimes pay money short, the machines do debit one's account occasionally without paying anything!
Cases brought to Bank Managers knowledge are investigated and corrected. Faulty machines are repaired or replaced where applicable. |

probably best to count your money just in case. hasn't happened to me ever but I still check. |

Yes they usually do but even when they don't the people that balance the money know when they are up and approximately what time this occured so if you are ever down (check when you are away from other people) then go into the bank to report it and you will find that their machines will be up so there shouldn't be a problem. |

Yeah but it only takes a second or two to count a few notes no? |

My wife has had the wrong money twice , she stands at the machine and counts it (people behind her get quite irritated). |

I have always got the correct money but once I got no money at all and the amount appeared on my statement but I contacted the building society and had the money refunded to my account. |

No I agree with you. but on checking afterwards have never yet found an error. Have heard of instances of machines paying out too much, like £20 instead of £10 notes where machine was wrongly loaded. Not had that luck myself yet though... |

I have used ATMs world wide for many years and ONCE I got 100 Euro extra when I pinned a large amount.
Be careful with atms in unknown countries in shops.
Also some ATMs can be hacked to skim your pass |

most of the time they are correct, however, there was one time when one of my local banks filled the machine wrong so every time someone went to withdraw £10 they got a £20 note lol needless to say word got round and there was a huge queue before the bank found out and turned the machine off |
