I pay income tax to the federal government depending on my income and expenses. Some states have income taxes as well. However, my state doesn't and instead has sales tax of 8.4% on everything except unprepared food (grocery store stuff). I also pay property taxes based on the value of my home. This varies greatly. I do pay a water bill and a garbage bill for trash. |

Most of the services you've mentioned get paid for through real estate taxes.
The biggest rip-off of all is the high real estate taxes people pay in some areas for the best schools, and yet they have no children going to school.
Schools take a big bite out of real estate taxes, then comes police, firemen, trash colletions..and sometimes you have to vote for repairs to streets or buildings by having bonds issued.
Wouldn't you like to know who owned the land that the Twin Towers stood on?
That is probalby the most valuable piece of land anywhere.
If you knew the breakdown of ownership and the taxes on it and who paid what...it's very confusing...but if you understood, then it would shed a totally different light on that horrible event in history. |

Trash collection is usually paid to a company, not the government, but in some places its included. Police, streets, etc, thats taxes, and it comes out of everything. Income, property, etc. |

yes we do. Its a percentage of our regular bill set buy the company performing the service. We are way over taxed on everything. |

No, many states have local and state sales taxes though and the Government nabs FICA and Income tax before you get paid.
Their property taxes are like our old rates system that worked fine before Thatcher flipped out and tried to make people pay more to vote Labour w. the Poll Tax, which led to the Council tax. |

Usually that is paid for by taxes collected by the city. Property taxes are based on property value. The city also gets income from sales tax. |

I'm an American. I pay county, city, state & federal taxes as well as sales taxes and property taxes.
I pay extra to have trash collected. Policeman are paid from the city or county payrolls. Street repairs are paid from the city, county or state budgets. |

We don't have a tax called that. Such things are generally funded from property taxes. A tax levied on property owners based on the value of the land. |

We don't call it council tax.
I pay a trash bill separately, but police and street repairs come out of taxes. I pay sales tax and property tax, which are administered on a county or community basis. Income taxes are on a state or federal level.
Sales tax is like a VAT it runs 8.5% here, it varies by community. Property tax varies with the value of your house, I pay about $4000US per year in property taxes. |

dont know probably,funding there next war effort but at least we got a tram..................that nobody wants and bin collection once a fortnight that makes the neighbourhood smell like beirut...go figure. this country sucks 2 adults 4 kids makes a mess....... same council tax as everyone else I should pay more probably than the little old lady down the road whom ive just put 13 days worth of maggot infested bags in. |
