Do Business have a lower postage rate than homes?
At home I have to pay 32p for First Class, and 23p for Second Class. But yet I have letters from business were they have paid only 32p for First Class, and 21p for Second Class posy.
from today business rates have gone from 31p first class to 30p. It's due to the quantity of mail that is sent and it being prepaid ie using a franker machine which is topped up like a pay as you go mobile.

no that is not true the postal rate applies to business ses and personal it depends on the size of the package and where it is going to. if you are not sure contact royal mail on www.royalmail.co.uk they might give you the help you need if you are a business.

Yep it's a different tariff, but only by a couple of pence to start with, businesses save more on heavier and larger packages because they send more parcels than domestic users!
sabbycat76
Yes the post off will give lower postage to businesses because they mail in bulk (large quantities)
Small Pebble
I would guess a business that relies on the postal service heavily e.g. Play.com would pay a fixed amount up front each year to Royal Mail or City Link or whoever they use.

business that post a certain volume of mail are eligible for a bulk mailing rate. that seems to be what you have observed.
Crystal
Businesses do get reduced rates if they use certain methods. Royal Mail offer SmartStamp for example. It's only by a couple of pence though. To make this saving businesses have to do all their own stamping etc.

The only reduction in postal rates for business is 'cleanmail'.
This is for mass mailing where envelopes are printed and in 'bundles' and are therefore very easy to sort by machine (cheap), and the saving can be passed on.

Anyone can get a bulk rate with the post office. If you had 300 letters you wanted mailed, you can get a lower postage rate. It's not that businesses just are allowed to pay less.. they can get bulk rates.
