That will be extremely hard to do. You could always try, but if it doesn't work out, don't get down on yourself. Good luck! |

No, patents are only for inventions. What you want is a copyright but I don't know if you can copyright just an idea. I think you would be better of asking them to sign a confidentiality agreement before you pitch it to them. That way if they don't like it they aren't allowed to reveal it to anyone else. |

The first step would be to find an attorey who handles entertainment law. Patents are typically issued for durable goods, you may instead need to protect your idea with a copywrite and a document of legal ownership of this particular idea. |

Since it's a show idea, the cheapest way to patent it is to write everything out on paper (concept, characters, scripts for the first show, etc...). Put all of that into a large envelope and mail it to yourself. When you receive it, don't open it and file it away. If something ever comes up, you have an envelope that contains the shows info with a post mark.
Of course, this will only help determine a timeline if the case ever went to court, but if you can prove you had the idea before someone else, then you're safe. It's not fool proof, but it's cheap and effective.
Selling it to the network is another story. First you'll need an agent because networks will not accept unsolicited ideas. One avenue you can try is contests. Check out the site below for more info.....
Good luck! |

I don't think you can patent an artistic concept. However you can copy-write a script which would protect your rights as you sent it to producers. |
