Do I live in a flood zone?
I live in San Jose, CA and my new mortgage company say that I live in a flood zone, I've lived in my home since 1979 and never had flood insurance, my new mortgage company say that if I don't have flood insurance, they won't fund me?

41 out of 50 States have had Flood Map Revisions since 2004 - with the vast majority of them in recent months. When Flood Maps are revised, it is up to you to protect yourself, your home, your family and your assets.
Some people who were previously NOT located in a FEMA designated flood zone - now are (and vice-versa).

Just My Opinion
there are dif flood maps you are probably on a hundred year flood map meaning within the last hundred years your land flooded dont be a fool get the insurance..

Hey the way the world is going now days ~it will never hurt to get that extra insurance, best to be safe than sorry .

yes CALIFORNIA is a flood zone! ur right there with the water! california has already lost some ground from the earthquakes - and where there's earthquakes there is ground breaking and when ground breaks it falls and where it falls is in the water which allows ocean water to come up over ground level - also if it rains too much it will indeed flood or if you ever have a hurricane on that side then you're really in big trouble. AND IF u dont have insurance then ur scr*wed!

Skinny Kid
well if it hadnt flooded in 30 years or so i dont think its neccisarry. They just want your money.

You most likely live in a flood zone, whether you've ever been flooded or not. The law requires that everyone who lives in a flood zone, must have flood insurance. You can have a detailed study performed in your area (usually done by an engineer), which may change the flood limits. Then you would have to submit that study to FEMA and request a revision to their Flood Insurance Rate Maps. But that can be costly, not to mention tedious, and would probably be easier just to pay the insurance.

I don't own a house, but the area where I live is considered a flood zone (flood plain) because it is near the river, but I am certain that it has not flooded here, at least not in the past 100 years.

Hmm....maybe it has something to do with Hurricane Katrina. Sorry. I think alot of Insurance companies are going to be changing their policies because of this.
