That is a very good question!
Sometimes yes and sometimes no. Things like peanuts, canned foods and other non-perishables work just fine. But, when it comes to things like meats, fruits and vegetables and other items that you have to "use-up" before they expire...I can tell you from experience that I often have to throw-out much of the so-called "free" stuff that I received. |

maybe...I think its makes consumers feel better! but the retailers just do it to get rid of high volumes of stock or to get you to buy something else instead. they will definitely still get a benefit. I do like the 2 for 1 in superdrug when they have it on shampoo and conditioner. |

Not necessarily. Some companies move their product in this way in order to generate more sales, because their profits are directly linked to the volume of sales. Quality is usually of a lower standard when this sales practice is invoked. |

I notice that when some products are buy 2 for the price of 1 they usually have raised the price on one of them so really you are only getting like $1.00 off. Happens with cigarrettes a lot. |

The cost of the "free" item is always recouped elsewhere in the store but the offers can be good if they are on things you regularly buy and I do sometimes go to a shop just to get the offers!Its all depends on the item for sale and if you actually benefit personally from the offer..eg I sometimes buy things that are on bogof that I wouldn't normally buy food wise because just one wouldn't be enough for my family of 5. |

It's a win-win situation. As long as it's practical and necessary for the consumer to have two of the product, it's beneficial to both persons. For instance, say someone is selling books with a 2 for 1 sale. Without the sale, the consumer may not really feel any need for any specific book. However, the sale provides reason to get books. Since with books it is entirely practical to have more than one, the consumer wins. The seller also wins, however, because they sold more books than they otherwise would have. Say with the sale, they sold 100 books with a profit of $50 while without the sale they would have sold 25 books and made a profit of $25. Even though less merchandise was sold, more profit was made. However, in the case that it is not necessary nor even practical to have two of an item, the consumer loses and only the seller wins. |

Most of the time the shop will use a 2 for 1 to disguise the fact that the price has gone up or it might just be a ploy to get rid of older stock. But hey 2 for1 who can complain |
