I've been to more wakes than a person could ever want in the past two years. Yes they do indeed still use makeup. And now they will even dye their hair. My father looked like a totally different person becuase they needed to dye his hair and put so much makeup on him.
The embalming fluid doesn't do anything except keep the body from rotting a bit longer, that's it. The rest is makeup. Hope that helped!! |

Yes, based on my personal experience. The funeral home with my mother-in-law allowed us to do her makeup as we wanted for her funeral. |

Funeral homes, Mortuaries, etc. have standards for body presentation which involves the use of makeup to hide injuries, bruises, discoloration, etc. It's not the standard cosmetic makeup you would find at a department store though. |

We use embalming today for two primary reasons--to allow adequate time between death and burial to observe social customs such as visitations and funeral services, and to prevent the spread of infection. Cosmetic work is often used for aesthetic reasons. If someone is in a bad accident, makeup is a necessity to cover up any bruises or any other blemishes on the skin. But yes they still use makeup. And my mom used to do makeup and hair on dead people..ahh |

Actually the embalming fluid can give the corps a little color some funeral homes add color to the fluid. They add makeup too. If you pick up the latest issue of Jane magazine there is an article on funeral homes and embalming. It tells pretty much everything (and more) than you would ever want to know. Hope this helped end the feud. :) |

yes they will even reconstruct the face and uper body if it gets messed up for an open casket. i know because someone i knew had part of their face missing when they died not even a year ago and they gave us those options. |

As a Paramedic I can assure you that they do use make-up. The embalming fluid is a drying agent...not a coloring agent!

You are correct they do put make up on the face and hands. The parts that are not showing do not receive "makeup". All though the open casket funeral is slowly becoming a thing of the past. Not to many people seem to want an open casket by their own choice. Depends on the family, tradition and wants of the deceased. |

I think you can ask the funeral home not to have your loved one over done with makeup but mostly the idea is to try to make the body look presentable after it's been treated. you DO NOT want to know the process......

yes they do, or by the funeral day it'd be pretty scary.most just do a natural cover-then if the family wants to bring in a photo-they will match her "usual" looks. |
