A written letter is more appropriate.
To Whom it May Concern;
Please accept this as my letter of resignation.
My last day of work will be (insert date at least two weeks away here).
I have enjoyed my experience at THISCOMPANY and the opportunities offered to me.
Regards,

"Please accept this as my resignation, effective __/__/____.
Two weeks notice is ample.
You might include your willingness to train your predecessor.
No flowery words are necessary.
Be prepared if you are terminated immediately. |

Write a letter, ensure it is dated, make a photocopy, deliver the original personally (or to his/her PA).
That way there is no dispute about when you gave notice. |

You need to write the letter. Writing a letter both is professional and will give you a copy of your decision. |

the professional way to resign is make an appointment with him/ her, hand in your letter of resignation at the meeting and say good bye. always take the high road & don't burn bridges .... never know when you'll need a reference. |

write a letter and give 2 weeks notice or you'll have a bad job reference following you forever - just say you want to pursue other oppotunities - keep it professional on non-accusing |

you should write a letter give it to him and talk it out...he'll respect you for that and you wont have to worry about being blackballed... |

writing would be better...... He can't kill you for quiting!!!!!! And do it respectfully, that way it won't look bad on your resume |

You should do both. If you call him he will ask you to put it in writing. And if you write a letter he will want to talk to you regardless. |

Letter. Copy for boss and for the HR department. That way they have record that you resigning not just quiting. It's better to do it professionally. You don't have to tell them exactly why you are leaving just that you are "exploring other options" or "have found a position elsewhere that is a bitter fit". Do the professionally thing and give them at least two weeks notice.Don't burn your bridges. You never know when you may cross paths with theses people again. |

something like that is usually in your contract / policies etc. The usual way to resign is with a letter of resignation, and about 2 weeks to 1 months notice. |

Common practice when resigning is doing it face to face regardless of your feelings toward him. It's acting professionally. Are you giving them 2 weeks notice? If you leave without giving the company time to find someone to replace you it will reflect badly on your record and when any potential employers call your company and boss for reference they will get the impression that you may not be the right type of employee they are looking for. |

It would be nice to talk to him and let him know about 2 weeks ahead. |

You should put it into writting, just to be safe. But it would be better if you gave it to your boss in person. |

It's best to resign in person. By doing so you will have a better chance of having a good recommendation from your boss when you leave. However, if you REALLY don't want to do that, call him. You will also need to write a letter (whether you resign in person or over the phone) for HR purposes. |

I would write a letter, and give it to him personally, or talk to him personally.... whats better than quit a job and tell em in their face!? |

Be a man. Resign in person. You might enjoy his reaction. |
