Do mail-in-rebates actually work? Do you get your money back? Please explain how it works?
How do I send one etc.

YOu follow the instructions and send it in, you usually get a cheque within 2-3 months.

The last rebate I got was for a Brother Fax machine for my home office. I filled out the form, sent a photocopy of my reciept, a copy of the UPS from the box, and sent it via registered mail. It took about 8 weeks to get my rebate ($80.00)

Manufacturers offer rebates on their products as an incentive to buy them. Once you purchase an item with a rebate you need to get the rebate slip. Fill it out completely, and mail to the address on the slip, along with your sales slip. you should recieve your rebate in about 3 weeks. Hope this helped.

I've had mixed results. I've tried it twice and it has worked once. The first was for a motorola cell phone almost 10 years ago, which didn't work. The second time was for Netgear WiFi hub, which did work.

Whichever your product is you fill out a rebate form (provided by the seller, inside the packaging of the item you purchased, or the website of the manufacturer).

Follow all the instructions and send mail. The rest is playing the waiting game. It could take 6-8 weeks.

Say want to get a new cell phone. If it costs $150 with a $50 mail-in-rebate then you will pay the full $150 when you buy the phone. When the phone is delivered there should be a form that comes with it that you can send in to get the rebate. Usually the postage is paid for. Once you've sent in the rebate the company will send you a check in the mail.

Follow instructions, get a check.

MOM KNOWS EVERYTHING
They work, but you have to follow the instructions for the specific rebate. There is no ONE way to send one in.

They don't work if you don't get off the computer and fill out the paperwork and send it in. You might even have to make a copy of your receipt, they might ask for the original or the copy, most want a copy. Don't expect your money any time soon, they do it in their time. Not often but it can happen, they might not only send you the check, but they may also send you coupons for your product to buy extras for it.

sacharose
Yes they really work. You have to follow all instructions for the rebate and sometimes it can take up to 3 months but they pay.

bathams
It works for me.

So when you buy some items and it has a mail in rebate, usually they will give you a form to fill out and you need to send your UPC with it.

It takes about 3-4 weeks to receive the rebate. Make sure you read their small prints, usually it has some weird, but once you follow their rules its pretty easy and you get your money back.

swoop
If you follow the instructions exactly, and if you know what a UPC is (not to be confused with other barcodes that may be on the package), you almost always get your money.

No PO Boxes, no duplicate submissions, send in before the due date, etc.

I keep close track of the dozens of rebates I have submitted. The time to get your check is usually the amount of time specified on the rebate form plus a week or two.

wwbrad90
You mail in the form with your receipt and get a check back in about 6-8 weeks. Keep copies of everything. They usually work if you follow the directions on the form. The hassle is the long wait.

jbg
They are great for those who are not lazy. The concept behind rebates is that people will not mail them in, and this is true most of the time. Because people mail them in so infrequently, they will often be large and you can take advantage of that. Follow the instructions exactly, and make copies of everything. Send them in - don't be a slug. Be the one who takes advantage of everyone elses laziness!

regerugged
Yes. Yes. When you buy something with an advertised rebate, you get an application form. Fill out the application, send it with a copy of the receipt. Resubmit every 30 days until you get your money.

Jenny
I have only tried it once it was for my cell phone & yes i got my money back

i have sent 3 mail in rebates, and gotten a check for one of them. you have to have the adress of where to send it, you need proof you bought it (receipt and upc code) and you need to make copies of everything before you send it so you have proof you sent it. it's a pain in the butt which is why they do it, most people won't bother to even send the stuff in so it saves the company more money than having an outright sale.

c0mplicated_s0ul
Yes they actually work providing you mail them in before they required time frame. Make sure you photo copy the receipt for yourself and send the original copy with the rebate info. It usually takes 4-6 weeks to get the refund.

Make sure you keep the receipt, and you will need the bar code from the package. You have to cut it out...they will not except copies. Fill all the required spaces of course to where the rebate will be sent. True, it takes between 4 weeks to 3 months or maybe longer. Mail it and forget about it.
It will come in the mail, it does work to send in everything to get that rebate and when one day you need money....there will be the check...

Rebates do work, sometimes...I've sent rebates in for $3.00, $5.00 etc and some have arrived. However I sent an $80 rebate in when I spent over $600 on a digital camera. The camera is wretched despite the fact it was rated tops and even though I sent the rebate via registered mail...the company is stating that they didn't have such a promo that it was through the store...the store said it was through the manufacturer. So, I bought a card reader for 130.00 only because the rebate was attached ... and I only got the reader so I could read when using the laptop if I was away.

I also had a $15 rebate but I didn't bother sending it in...not going to spend $6.50 for registering only to send and not receive $15 :)

When you get a rebate i.e. from say, Best Buy, they print off a second receipt for you which you complete with your name, address etc and send it in to the company. The should send you back the rebated amount in 8-10 weeks max. If after that time period you don't have it, contact the company to track it. Registered mail needs a signature...so get that information from the postal service. You can check this online by entering the Registration number on your postal receipt...at the Postal website.

Other rebates, say off a box of some sort for a product, usually has the form right inside the box perhaps on the side or bottom of the box itself. Take that and complete it, include copy of your receipt and mail it...voila.

ALWAYS keep receipts for such things, if you have a scanner, copy the receipt otherwise, Staples or somewhere...never send the original, you will need that if you ever have to utilize the warranty for the product if that applies.

Good luck with this, I'm sure it will be better than mine :)

Follow the instructions for the given rebate. In general, they involve sending in the UPC from the product, the receipt (or a copy of it), and the rebate form. After a couple of months, you receive a check for the amount of the rebate.

You have to be careful to:
1) Follow the exact instructions for the given rebate.
2) Make sure that you send in the form and other stuff on time.

Yes and yes. The fine print often says you have to wait six weeks, even longer, before you get the rebate check. This gives the company -- from whom you just bought the good or service -- the opportunity to invest the funds you just paid.

So by the time you get the rebate check, the company is probably sending you a portion of the interest they just earned on your funds.

johnbntexas
they have instructions you know - and yes they work
