definately.....I went back to school recently after about 15 yrs and it is very important. You don't want to get stuck in some crap job that gets you nowhere. You can do it. |

If you really want to, but if you have serious doubts on your ability to pass the course, you might be btter off getting a job (you can always study in the evenings on an Open Univerity course ) |

If you don't, you shut yourself out of many possible careers & almost guarantee yourself a life of low wage jobs. |

well if all you want to do is live on welfare and pay check to paycheck and not be able to feed your children.. steal from Peter to pay Paul... and never get to buy new anything, live in a slummy place with bugs and things like that.. Well I say don't go to College... All you have to do is go out and look at these big houses with the pools in the back yards then go to a trailor park and ask yourself witch life style would you want to live...
No College education = trailor park or small apt with bugs..
College education = nice house with pool and vacations every year to your favorite resort....
But if you want to live a good life with money to provide for your children and yourself then you need to go to College.
Even if you start work and become the best that you can be with out the education...the boss will use you to train the people with College educations and they will get the promotions before you... They don't want anybody who has been with the company for years and know the ropes about the products or what not... they want that piece of paper that states they have a college education....
So go ahead don't go to College and become one of the back breaking working poor... who can't even buy a pair of shoes for your kids.. yes it is that bad... been there and still trying to dig myself out.. |

I think that depends on alot of things. You have to ask yourself what you want for your future. What kinds of things interest you? In terms of earning money, what kind of work would make you happy and look forward to going to work every day?
These days, unless you go the vocational route, it's pretty difficult to get ahead without some college under your belt. But, there are exceptions. |

Yes, I went to college and did not finish and now I wish I would have. I have a good job and am paid well but my options are limited and now I'm going back to school and its not as easy as if I would have finished when I was young. Even if you are not sure what you want to do get a liberal arts degree or any degree in something you find interesting. That piece of paper can open many doors for you. |

I think it depends on your chosen career path and your goals in life.
Education is very important nowadays, especially in highly industrialized nations like the US. With low skill jobs shifting to other countries, the future workforce demand I'm sure will emphasize highly skilled educated candidates. Simply put, the more education you have, the better off you are.
My personal belief is get an education but do something you want to do. Don't go for an accounting degree or become a doctor simply because you can make a lot of money. You aren't just going to school for 4 years, you are making a major time & monetary investment in your future.
Look at what you are good at and what you like to do and see what job fields accommodate that and tailor your degree goals as needed.
Good luck in whatever decision you make. |

YES! College is important even if you go to a small community college and get a little business degree, or art degree it always looks good on your resumes in the future. Trust me! Plus with a college degree you can always have a fall back. It is your choice and your life you make it whatever you choice. Remember what you always hear.....Stay in School!!! |

Yes! We've moved into a time where, to be successful, you HAVE to have a college degree. The time where people could get a good job out of high school and make enough to live off of is gone. Plus, college helps transition you into the real world much more than high school. You learn to deal with stupid people and teachers/people who think they know everything. You learn social skills for the jobplace too! |

Why would you NOT want to go. If you go away to college (don't live at home) it's a great experience. And unless you are in the rare field where a degree doesn't matter, you'll be much happier long-term with the degree than without it (and did I mention you'll have a good time while getting it).
You don't need a degree to succeed, but there is ample evidence it helps: either it opens doors or it just gives you the learning time that is just beneficial to your brain even if you never use it directly in your job. So even if you major in history you'll be better off even if you never wind up teaching history.
Oh, and stats say you'll earn more (odds are). But I'm sure you've heard that already. |

April, it is imperative that you receive an education unless you wish to spend your life living on the edge. In today's society it is very, very difficult to succeed without that 'piece of paper'. Granted, you may hear an occasional story about someone who does well without college, but overall, that is not the case. It may take you a few years, hard work and tears, but you will NOT regret it. Meet with a counselor to discuss options. Health care is BOOMING!!! (nurse, pharmacist, physical or occupational therapists, transcriptionists, billing, etc) |

I am of the opinion that pursuing a degree is important only if the degree helps someone acheive or succeed in a specific career. I find it disengenuous for someone to flat out state that if someone wants to succeed and make big money, then college is an absolute requirement.
I have many acquaintances and family members who have acheived financial security, good homes and successfull family lives working at one of the "trades." I would no more push them into college than I would put pants on a cow.
On the other hand, if someone were to say I want to be a, (insert any professional career path, doctor, engineer, attorney, school teacher, etc) I would say that the preparation for this begins long BEFORE colllege. And that the degree resulting is absolutely necessary.
One also need not go for a degree to benefit from college classes. As a freelance graphic designer, the lack of degree has not hindered me in any way. However, the classes I have taken in Graphics applications such as Photoshop, Quark, Pagemker and Print Technology have made the all the difference in my being able to compete in this cut throat business. |

im not going to lie....college isn't for everyone - and those who are only going to party, sleep late, and make some new friends shouldn't waste their time or money. However, after being in the work force for almost 4 years now, i can say that college was the best 4 years of my life - both socially and academically |

Yes for many reason. Now a days you have to have some kind of degree to get most jobs if you want to earn more then minimum wage. But also the experience of being in college you will carry with you, your entire life.... Have fun....Work hard! |
