If you ask most Americans to tell you something about Canada 9 out of 10 times it will be "it's cold up there". Often the butt of many jokes, Canadians happen to be very loyal and conservative people who not only love their country but will also go to the extreme for their environment. Not only is their healthcare of the utmost importance to their government but it is also a blessing to people to which take such criticism due to lack of knowledge. Considering the close proximity of the two countries one would think their education systems would have a more detailed history corriculum of their neighboring country.
Home of Hockey, SCTV comedy in London, Ont has hosted some of the best comedians to ever make it big, the CN Tower in Toronto is one of the largest standing structures in the world (if not the tallest), Yonge Street is the longest road travelling through Canada. The Flag is red and white and consists of two white stripes and a maple leaf in the center. The two main languages spoken in Canada but not limited to are French and English. And a majority of Playboy and Penthouse models...they are Canadian born and raised. And then there is the trillium... |

Elliott has the best answer.
But the truth is, the average American knows two main thing about Canada: it's above the USA and Celine Dion is from there. |

I know it is beautiful up there, and that french is spoken by quite a few of you, your accent is a bit odd, but everyone I know that has visited or lives in Canada says that Canada has some of the nicest people on earth. Other than that I just figure you are pretty much like us Americans. |

...if you think that americans make fun of canada, then you obviously don't know anything about americans. in fact, i don't know anyone that makes fun of canada or its inhabitants. my friends and i actually think canadian accents are cool. but to answer your question, no. i do not know that much about canada. you have cool accents, beautiful scenery, you have maple syrup, and pretty money. good, eh? |

I never make fun of Canada. I even know a few people from Canada. Very nice people. However, there are people from every culture that are going to make fun of others. So please, don't blame us all for a few that are mis-informed. |

i agree. americans are typically ethnocentric and do not know much of what goes on beyong their own life's sphere. actually, many americans don't know that much about the united states, so do not feel singled out. |
