God. This explanation is what everyone eventually resorts to when the other answers fail. Throughout all of human history, we've been trying to explain existence. But nobody has ever succeeded. And it's likely that nobody ever will. So we create the concept of God, whose only necessary property is being "that which explains existence."
This doesn't tell us much about god, though. It doesn't mean that any particular religion is correct. It merely defines god as something which answers The Question, because we have not been able to.
but...
The Bible represents a fundamental guidepost for millions of people on the planet, in much the same way the Koran, Torah, and Pali Canon offer guidance to people of other religions. If you and I could dig up documentation that contradicted the holy stories of Islamic belief, Judaic belief, Buddhist belief, pagan belief, should we do that? Should we wave a flag and tell the Buddhists that we have proof the Buddha did not come from a lotus blossom? Or that Jesus was not born of a literal virgin birth? Those who truly understand their faiths understand the stories are metaphorical."Sophie looked skeptical. "My friends who are devout Christians definitely believe that Christ literally walked on water, literally turned water into wine, and was born of a literal virgin birth.""My point exactly," Langdon said. "Religious allegory has become a part of the fabric of reality. And living in that reality helps millions of people cope and be better people."

Yes, definitely!!!
Probably, people will ask for evidence of God's existence. I can point them to the historical truth of the bible or he can behold the order of the universe.
One great example as to the truth of the bible wherein man only realized its truth for less than 500 years:
Before the 15th century, history tells us that man feared sailing too far because he might fall over the edge of a flat earth...But about 2,500 years ago, the bible already told man that the earth is circular (spherical) in shape. The passage can be found in the book of Isaiah 40:22:
"It is He that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in."
I am not the only one who believes. I am sure that there are many out there who do. Even in areas where tribes have not come into contact with civilization, in their hearts, they believe in a supernatural being whom we call our God.
But then again, in spite of all the evidence for His existence, many will deny Him. They will give all the excuses in the world not to believe, some even with vested interest. There are atheists, skeptics, and still others don't even care.
But their unbelief will not change the fact of His existence. And time will come, and the time may be near, when they will regret what they have done. |

No. If there is one, he sure has some serious explaining to do. I don't beleive in heaven or hell, either. It's too black and white, what happens to everyone that lived life in the gray area? Where's my proof? I don't KNOW for SURE that I will go to heaven if I don't sin. It's too much a stretch for me. I need proof, I guess you could call me a skeptic. Oh well, this skeptic isn't supposed to know what happens when she dies. She will find out when it happens! |

Respectfully, I do not accept the classical description of "supreme being, by definition purely good, omniscient, omnipotent, waiting for your prayer".
In times of fair fortunes, anyone can see the basic situation: except for dubious coindicences, no direct prayer has ever been answered in a manner which even ordinary people are capable of, that leaves no doubt.
(Be my guest. Ask the sky right now, to submit the answer to this yahoo question!)
There are some profound complications at work. In my view, the concept of prayer either creates or acknowledges a mental state in which the seeker is exhausted, can do no more than wait, and HOPES that an indirect source will somehow solve the problem. Then, the seeker LOOKS FOR COINCIDENCES.
Typical "answered prayers" involve indirect resources such as a person you never knew directly, perhaps seeing you and being impressed in you from afar, sends aid. However, this is a percentage based hope at best. Thus when the prayer "fails to work", there essentially is no further answer. |

Yes, now I do believe in God. Earlier, I was unsure if God is there or not. But, now I have had enough experiences to believe that God is there and he does everything for a good reason. |
