I find THAT annoying... AND I found it REALLY annoying when I walked into a Wal-Mart in CHICAGO and found that ALL of their hair care products were in Spanish...
Pantene Hair Care Products...
ALL of them with NO ENGLISH on their packaging at all...
I hate it when I walk into a fast food restaurant and get ignored because the guy behind the counter is chatting in Spanish with the Latino customer...
I hate the attitude of the Bleach-Blond Polish Chicks when I shop on the South Side of Chicago...
For everyone out there that thinks I'm racist I want you to do a little experiment...
Go to any other country on earth... ANY country... Even Mexico... And demand that all of their governmental services and educational system be available in English.
Go to Mexico and try to get a Drivers license!!
Did you know that it is Illegal for a NON-MEXICAN to get a Mexican Drivers License or other form of Legal ID?
I am ALL for letting people try to achieve the "American Dream" (I'm only 3rd generation American - Great Grandfather immigrated from Germany) but it is just polite to sign the guest book on the way in!!
If you go to France they expect you to speak French...
If you go to Germany they expect you to speak German...
If you go to Japan... *GASP* they expect you to speak Japanese...
Why is this concept considered "Racist" when applied to the United States??

No, I don't find it insulting. There so many bad things in the world to get insulted by. I would not count this one as significant at all. I choose not to get insulted by a minor thing like that!!! |

I wouldn't be insulted. I would press one for english and be done with it. I find it more rude to be stuck on hold listening to MUSACK with the occasional interuption of, "You call is important to us. Please continue to hold until the next available associate can take your call." |

I think each country is s'posed to have a "primary" language. Obviously in the U.S. that would be English. Therefore, I think that in the U.S. you should have to push a button for any language other than the (default) primary language. It's just common sense. |

'OUR' culture would be all Native American if they had known they needed to tighten immigration laws. |

lamo arguement sorry but this country is made of immigrants, many didnt learn how to speak english right away or at all, one states articles of organization were written in German. I think this country should learn more than one language like every other country |

no but it just feels awkward |

Yes, and I find it insulting to go shopping and see product labels in Spanish; to see signs in Spanish; yet we don't see other legal/government made signs in any language than English...like road signs, etc...
It definitely impacts immigrants to this country to NOT learn English. If I go to a foreign country, I have to learn their language; why isn't it the same here? |

It is a free market economy. If it bothers you then shop somewhere else. |

You should not have to press 1 for English. English should be the default language and if they need another language - they should push a number. |

i think they need.. if you speak another language press 2. why should i sit through all of that. ahh i speak english.. move on. i hate wasting so much time on the computerized stuff. |

I only get offended if they start speaking in a different language before they speak in English and I am calling an American company. I don't mind us being a bilingual country, but lets not forget that English is our first language. By the way, I don't think offering something in two languages has anything to do with illegals - it's just easier for non-English speakers! |

only reason it says spanish is becuase that is the most spoken language in this country after english.
majority always rules, so since there are so many spanish speaking people, it makes sense.
as long as you speak english why do you care.
english does not equal culture. sure, it may help to learn culture, but english is just a language, a way people communicate.
dont worry, just by living in america she will learn the culture just by observation and interaction. dont flip a **** |

Wow, DOES IT KILL YOU to listen to that??
YOU should be considerate of others. And it's not the "illegals" don't wanna learn the culture but you don't wanna learn anything new either. Why would you even bring up illegals. It has nothing to do with them. |

If cambodians consisted as much of the population as spanish speakers, then I would understand, BUT THEY DON'T |

I think that it should be a requirement for citizenship to,
be able to speak English. It is insulting to have to hear all these press 1 or press 2 for English.
English is the American language Our Forefathers fought and died for the freedoms we enjoy in this Great nation.
This Generation needs to stand up,and if necessary fight to keep these freedoms. If we keep backing up Spanish will soon become Americas new Language.
These people should Learn English or Go back to Mexico or where ever they came from. The illegals should be immediately deported. |

The computerized stuff annoys me intensely, so any instructions that slow down my getting the info I am calling to get will annoy me. That includes instructions on pressing a number to continue in English, Spanish, etc.
I hate when I have to enter a phone number, SSN, or account number, and then the rep (if I ever get to one) asks me AGAIN for it. I don't understand why I am asked to enter that info, if it isn't forwarded with my call.
Also, I detest the auto-attendant that acts like we're having an actual conversation, and tries to interpret my verbal answers. If I'm calling from my desk at work, I actually don't WANT to give my answers out loud. Duh!
Plus, I don't need need some lame musical entertainment played while I'm on hold. I usually try to use my time to work on something, while I'm waiting, and the music (or recorded advertisements, etc.) make that harder to do.
Generally, the options I am given by the auto attendants never fit what I'm calling about. I already KNOW that I can get basic info like balance, last payment received, payoff amounts, etc. I JUST WANT TO TALK TO A HUMAN!!!! |
