Yeah, and probably most people do. We stay there because we are comfortable there. If we were comfortable with something else, or could do it easily, it would already be within our comfort zone. Sure, we might all venture out of it now and then, but are we ever really comfortable, and is always easy.....I doubt it. |

It's a funny thing. I've taken those personality profile tests that are supposed to tell you whether you're an intravert or an extravert, artistic or scientific, that sorta thing...and mine always comes up as an introvert when everyone that knows me would bet I would be the opposite. I think your question about the "comfort zone" is the root cause of their confusion. Being outside of my comfort zone scares the bejeezus out of me...but that's exactly why I spend most of my time out there! On the edge is where you know that you're truly alive! Knowing that, at any second, you could fall on your face and make a complete a$$ of yourself, is what makes it so exciting. When you fail, you get up, dust yourself off, and try again. But when you succeed, and you have people hanging on your every word, it magical! Does any of this make sense? |

YES. I have a larger bubble than most for physical space which protects a portion of my comfort zone but I also am shy and reserved which keeps people out of my comfort zone longer than most people. My extreme clinging to that level of comfort has prevented me from moving up the corporate level as well as allowing my wife full instant access to me. |

Yes, and it is natural.....PHYSICAL: Imagine walking towards your destination instead of riding cars; using a gas lamp instead of fluorescent lamp/flashlight; using a hand pump to get water instead of a faucet; using firewood instead of gas or electric stove/heater for cooking/heating; using feather pen instead of ballpen/pencil; using telegraph instead of computers/television/telephones or cell phones; using hand fan instead of electric fan/aircon; using barter trade instead of money (bills)...EMOTIONAL: Supposing you grew up in a particular place, have many friends and love ones. One day you find yourself in another place, alone with no friends and love ones...INTELLECTUAL: Supposing you are used to a particular work or job, and then you are given another job which is not related to the one that you're having now.....Imagine using or having or doing all these things...Will you not find it quite difficult?... I will surely have a hard time going out of my comfort zone!!! |
