Me and my friends were seriously 'uncool' but we were so proud of being 'uncool' that all the supposedly 'cool' people wanted to hang out with us.
Let this be a lesson to all of you nerds out there, embrace your nerdism and be proud. |

My childhood was both. I was very intelligent, which all my peers in 7th and 8th grade looked down on. I had a few friends then. But in 9th grade I went to a different junior high but in the same district, and all of the sudden I was one of the most popular guys in the school. All of the people that used to look down on me years before, all wanted to get to know me once I hit high school. It's funny how a change af background can change your status... |

It was good and bad. Camping was good...being smacked around wasn't so great. :P
At school I always had a "best" friend...but if she wasn't there, I would often find myself alone. |

I was raised on a family farm. I had an excellent education, I'm still in touch with my oldest friend.
I wanted a horse - my parents said "NO." I think it was a huge mistake on their part.
I lived in a forward-thinking, tolerant town and while I was not popular - like a party animal - I had a reputation for being a brainiac, which gave me my niche in school.
I was and am blessed - we grew up thinking pesticide-free fresh veggies were a snack, my parents participated in our lives and except for the horse - I got my needs met.
Link below is a story I wrote about my mom, who passed ten years ago. |

I wasn't part of the preppy clique, but I had my fair share of friends. I was a band/drama geek. |

My childhood at home was a drag, I was mentally abused and my brothers were allowed to beat me up.
I was very popular when I went to school in Ohio, it was a small school and I was very friendly to others, outgoing, and fun to be around.
When we moved out to Arizona, i was with a whole different bunch of kids and the crowds were larger, so I wasn't so popular. I got picked on because I wasn't a rich girl and I did not keep up with the latest styles and this and that.
WHen I went to a school that was in an area that had a better class of kids, I became quite popular. I was never stuck up or anything, but I was well liked for being so nice and people didn't care that I wasn't up with the latest trends. They just liked me for who I was. I had my ups and my downs. It just seemed that when I was in smaller groups or groups of people that came from a better area of town, I got a long better. |
