I just heard a report about this today on npr.org on the radio. You can go to that web site & hear it yourself. I'm not sure. I've been to India many times. The malls may hurt the small shopkeeps but then again how many people are actually going to choose going to the mall OVER going to their local shopkeep? In the US I NEVER, NEVER go to malls, only at Christmas. I do not enjoy walking a mile to get into the store & I've found that the prices are too high at the mall. If I had a local shop to go to I'd go. |

In India, malls and super markets cannot affect small shopkeepers as majority of people are in lower middle class and middle class strata. They never go to malls, in regularity. Once or twice, in an year middle class people go to big malls or super market, mainly for buying, on sale (discounted price). |

I don't know about India. ...but here in the USA they most definitely do. The mall moves in and the small shops typically go out of business unless they provide goods that can't be typically purchased at a mall. Example: antiques, auto parts, handmade/custom clothes, etc. |

I believe the malls will definitely affect the small shopkeepers when they are near each other irregardless of country. Likewise, the kind and quality of merchandise sold in both malls and small stores will compete in prices. One must take into account the convenience and comfortability of the place. |

It can if the community lets it. Wal Marts and malls can sometimes offer products cheaper than mom and pop stores, and then the little guy loses so much business he has to jack prices, and it can devastate them. Deter people from going to the mall to start with. Id much rather support a local business than a corperation, I want no part in the take over of the US. |

No not really. a day will come when these small shopkeepers will join together and open their own malls selling goods under the same roof called as Malls. Malls are nothing but small shopkeepers selling goods under one roof. |

No, I don't think so, because these mall owners are not that interested in small customers. Goods are high priced and home delivery facility is not provided. |

absolutely not!
they will simply narrow their profit margin. |

It may or may not depending on what the shopkeepers sell
and if there's a substantial price difference between them and a store in a mall.
Stores inside malls spend money on advertising and they have sales. I don't know many small shops that do either. |
