Do you think that depression is a sickness?
I think it is because, because sometimes people can't get rid of it. No matter how much therapy.

Depression is a condition. It can have a known cause or not.
It can usually be healed so one might call it a sickness. It is associated with chemical imbalances in the brain, but this does not mean that it is caused by any chemicals or hormones.
Current medical practice seems to want to deal with depression by the use of drugs. Our society has both the most cases of depression and the most prescriptions filled to "treat" it. Somebody is getting very rich. I don't know if they are depressed about this or not.

Yes I do

beautifulNHmomma
well depression is a illness. It can be properly treated with meds and therapy.

landoflookbehind
It's a mental one.

GospelGirl
Yes,because it can come from a chemical embalence in your body, which can often come from stress, which come from depressing situations!!

mr.big
Of course it is a sickness and a devastating one at that.
I would much rather have a cold or even the flu, than be depressed...

Psychology
It's a proven mental illness with mental, and physical symptoms as well. So, I would consider it a serious sickness.

depends on what ur dr diagnoses for u. and hopefully the dr will see things thru ur eyes. they may even issue u medicines for it.

True depression is definitely an sickness. It can occur as a result of a chemical imbalance in your body. Now I don't mean something bad happening to you and you get depressed. I mean that there is nothing at all that is bad in your life you have all kinds of people around you and you feel alone. That is clinical depression.

Yes because it caused by an inbalance of chemicals in the brain. Mainly seratonin. It causes your brain to not function properly. Basicly seratonin is your natural happy pill. Without it your problems seem worse, you become pesimistic, and actually become physical sore.

Depression is a state of mind where the person usually feels sad all the time, avoids seeing people, stops finding pleasure in things they use to enjoy and feels worthless. Depression should be treated by a psychiatrist and counselor, if one is needed. I say a psychiatrist because a medical Dr. will give you an antidepressant but sometimes the depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in our brain. That can best be determined by a psychiatrist. It is not a stigma to go to a psychiatrist like people often think. Please don't ignore this because you CAN feel better, if you get some help.

callmemonu
yes.. if it gets chronic.. it needs treatment...

phencycl
Depression is a sickness not because we can get rid of it but because it prevents us from functioning as best as we can. We can't get rid of AIDS or Alzheimer's eiether, but we consider them diseases
