It depends on my mood and the quesiton. Some questions are so rediculous or ignorant that I don't give it any serious contemplation instead i just try to subtly mock the person who asked it. Other times, there is a question that might genuine interest me (like this one) and i'll actually give it a serious answer. I like being able to help people sometimes when i think they really need a good answer and i feel i am capable of giving it to them. I've also noticed that i should not mess around on yahoo answers when i'm drinking because then i get kind of rude. I've had two people report abuse on me and i think i deserved it both times. |

I answer to the best of my knowledge and ability. I rarely get sarcastic or nasty, but it HAS been known. Particularly when the question is obviously not serious or simply idiotic. |

I try to give honest answers unless the question is completely incoherent, which isn't that uncommon. |

I am genuinely trying to help. But when there is a joke just begging to be used, I like it IF IT ISN'T cruel or mean. I like humor and I enjoy other people's jokey answers IF they aren't like really DUMB or harmful in any way. I do dislike the cruel answerers that are just mean. |

I think that it depends on the reason why somebody participates here.
I have answered a lot of times this Q in the past and I confess that this time I answer because I like your avatar and I want to keep it in my personal page.
Reading the previous answers, I found that ms_priss opinion is closer to what I believe.
I want also to give an answer to the previous answerers, after your permission.
OK Demanda,
I think that we don't have to be perfect, in order to express a personal opinion.
Amarie,
It doesn't seem to me that he is making fun of other's language skills. He just points out something that is annoying to him. He has the right.
According my opinion, they either don't take care for various reasons or it's a Q of the educational system.
I think that it's a common problem, that we also face and it is a result of early "specialization" at schools.
This is a big discourse and wordworthy to point out.
As you have understood, I am for general education, even because I know (as a health care provider)that our brain stays young when during our life we try always to learn new things, when we are able to think and act in every direction.
Learning a foreign language( I suppose that it is valid also for our language), has been caracterized as an exellent exercise.

I really try to be helpful, but there are times when people ask stupid questions, or people who post that just want points. I believe that if they have nothing helpful to say, then don't post. But, yes, I have done the same before...and I regret it. |

I put in a small joke here and there, but I always counter it with helpful advice. I put in the joke to help make them smile, to make them feel better when they're down. Don't know if it helps, but I try.
I once read in a book: "Life is either tragedy or comedy. You can either be depressed and upset all the time, or you can laugh at everything and be happy."
I prefer to live life as a comedy. It's much more fun!
Plus, I ask questions that not many people think of or whatever pops into my head.
I have one right now, waiting for answers. It's under entertaintment-other, and it's called "What prize would you like to find in your cereal box?" or something liek that. I did that just to see what people would want if they could have their hearts desire right out of a cereal box. So far, nobody's mentioned a celebrity though. :) |

It depends on the question. If it's a genuine one from someone who can actually spell, then I always try to help. If it's a dumb question or full of horrible grammar then I can become sarcastic. |

Most of the time I answer because I know a solution or I think I can help the person. rarely I might think of a witty response and just answer for the fun of it and to get 2 points. Most of the time I think we all like to help people, don't we? |
