H & H | Do you think this is a good business idea? |
I currently own a paint and drywall company, but I had the idea to go to privately owned businesses, mainly Restaurants and asking the manager or owner if he or she would be interested in having his or her property pressure washed? I was thinking I could offer to wash a small section of the property for no charge. I think the best place would be the entrance. That way, when the manager sees the difference, he or she would be inclined to hire me because I doubt he or she would want a half cleaned area, especially the entrance where it would be visible to customers.
Of course, I will be neatly dressed and present them with my business card or brochure.

I don't know why you would offer to do it for free. I would throw you out if you did that at my place. But, the business idea is sound. Pressure washers do a pretty good business. You might also try getting a contract with the local bus company, or at your local small craft airport doing the same. |

you could try the following to get your foot in the door:
offer your services free at a charity.. Choose a dirty section of the floor. Take a picture of before and then one of after.
Use that to show the business owners. |

I don't think I would clean only part of the front areas...this almost feels like you're scamming them a bit. For the exact reason you stated, that they would not want a half cleaned area in the front of their business. They most likely would not let you do this for this same reason also. |

I worked at a Construction Co. and we had a guy come in offering a similar service. But he did Pressure Washing,Window Washing and Awning Cleaning too. One big package deal.
We decided to give him a try because his offer was if we hire him to pressure wash our building he'd do our windows for free after that he'd come on a regular schedule and we'd charge him for his services. We never had to call him to come in and do it he just came back and did it every 2 weeks and was always consistent with staying on top of cleaning our building.
He now cleans 75% of the buildings in our area and runs a lucrative business.
So the people who say no it won't work are the people who don't realize that there are people out there that have these jobs and do them everyday they are just totally aloof to them. The buildings don't clean themselves! |

Pressure washing tends to be a fly by night business only profitable in the spring and summer. What will you do for the down time in the winter when it snows? Will you be able to get the attatchment for your truck to plow the snow out of driveways? What other skills do you have because you will need another service to fall back on. My friends husband owns this type of business but it is not full time. He is also a ticketed welder with all his own equipment, travelling around to his clients. |
