As a retired United States Army National Gaurd enlisted man I served for eight years who was awarded the National Defense Medal for Operation DS/DD and recieving an honorable discharge in 1995. I thought I could but I have ADHD and found out that people need people or our minds start to wonder. If you are a urban dwellar even twenty miles away from where you live. People need to be aware of the wilderness and combat urban sprawl. You cannot survive out there because you want the comforts of our 21st century standard of living. I am a fourth generation descendant of an immigrant from Sweden who homesteaded a 160 acre plot of land in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota in the USA in the late 19th century and plowed up the virgin prairie sod to prepare the ground to raise crops. He built a log cabin and a barn from timber he cut down nearby to live in and house his animals. This cabin was primitive with a dirt floor, no running water, no toilet, no electricity, heated with wood or buffalo chips in a fireplace, and be able to endure the long brutal winter months here. He found a creek which there was water and 'kandiyohi' which means buffalo fish in native american language. After some time he brought his relatives to also settle on the land and acquire more land. Even today I camp outside on the farm but the creek that runs through our land is polluted with sewage from the town of Kandiyohi, Mn. Our dairy cattle before we sold them in 1991 were affected by the water flowing downstream. We see the chemicals and biosolids build up with the simple rock dams we have erected for fish habitat and waterfowl. You cannot live without fresh water and we could not make improvements to our dairy operation because this waterway bisected our farm. We have houses built up on our neighbors land and the city of Kandiyohi,Mn has not done any measures to reduce the effluent that is dicharged through our creek to the Crow River watershead which empties into the Mississippi River on toward the Gulf of Mexico. In our work, we live off the land and teach others to respect nature with doing no harm to affect the ecosystem. We are trying to start up a preserve of the native grasslands before people settled where buffalo roamed and the glaciers formed a ridge which people can drive on "The Glacial Ridge Trail" near our place on this earth. I am thinking of a "Survivor, Prairie Outback on the plains of the Midwest" or PBS had a show called "Pioneer Settler"a couple years back, I believe. |

I'm not trained to do so. It would be arrogant of me to defy the reality of my ignorance in this. I'd probably eat a poison berry and fall over dead in minutes if not seconds, or worse. |

Approximately 30 minutes, before mosquitoes started eating me. |

Actually, I honestly think I could... And I know that I would like it! But there wouldn't be music, so I would have to sing and I would end up scaring all the animals. |

I think so......my fav movie as a kid was Red Dawn, I always thought I would be like the kids on that show if it came down to it...I know what edibles to eat, mushrooms, berries, plants like "poke" and "curly dock", how to hunt & snare & fish...
but all alone wouldn't be much fun for long. |

Yes, but, it would be lonely. :-(
I remember I tried to survive alone in the Wilderness of Yellowstone National Park once, dang, people kept knocking on my Hotel door. |

I'd like to think I could, but I'm sure it's debateable. I think my I could definately if I was with my husband, because I'm almost positive he could survive alone. |

Oh hell no. I can't even cook with a stove, what am I going to eat in the wilderness? |

I would say yes in most circumstances. However, it would depend on the situation. |

Yes, I know I could. It would be difficult to have to look for every bite of food and drink of water, to provide a warm, safe shelter and to make clothes out of furs and hides. I am accustomed to flipping a light switch, turning a faucet, going to the store and traveling in a vehicle. But, I could do it if I had to. |
|

Professor
 |
No I do not believe I could, unless of course there was a Krispy Kreme near by. |

Most definitive, since a lot of the basics in out door survival is in the movies and I've seen a lot of movies. |

Yeah, but there would have to be a good reason, like somebody's going to come get me in ten days or so. If it looked like being a forever thing, why bother? |

Go to prison if you can turn a dryer to a tat gun. Or if you can make ink out of checkers and baby oil. or if you can get items from other inmates from fishing threw the toilet system.Like I can then Hell yeah! its easy to make fire with sticks or stones.with fire you can make your water good to drink. with a some dead wood you can hunt or make traps Easy I'll prove it if you pay me.... |
