Does anybody know the rules of cigarette breaks on the job site?

If you work 8 hours you're entitled to two 15 minute breaks.

Dogzilla
Everyone is entitled to a 15 minute break after 3 1/2 hours. There is no such thing as a "cigarette break"!

All employers are different..many are going to a smoke free work place...no rules it's up to your employer.

cigarette breaks on a job site, If you got the taste for smoking, you may want to ask some of the other co workers who are working there, i think it would be inopropriate to ask someone in personnel, i would assume that you can smoke at a designated area on any of your normal breaks,

glad42day7@sbcglobal.net
It would depend on each and every company. There is no standard rule. Companies are being very generous when they allow extra smoke breaks. They do not have to.

Jimmy
you go outside

gyorzxk
It depends on where you are and who you work for. Normally if you smoke outside it should not be a problem.

nas88caror 300
we only get 2 15 breaks and a half hour for lunch and that is the only time they can smoke

Yes. A smoke break every two hours. And sneak one every chance you get. Or at least that's how I do it.

Check the employee handbook. In the USA you are allowed certain amounts per how many hours worked. You might not be allowed a cigarette break, but you are allowed breaks from working. It's up to the company as to where you are allowed to smoke. If it takes too long for you to get to an area to smoke, you might not be able to call it a cigarette break. Talk to your person in Human Resources. I used to get a break from manual labor...20 minutes for each four hours of work and one half hour for lunch. YMMV

mommyof2
whatever your job says, pretty soon at my job you cant smoke anywhere on the property, that includes cars parked on the property

jimee77
Whatever your boss says. There are no federal guidelines. Some places say no smoking on the property. Other places, you can take as many as you want.

If you are working an 8-9 hour day. I would never take more than 4 and keep them as short as possible.

It really depends on the company you work for. Some will allow a 5 or 10 minute break for people to grab a smoke. Others say you have to wait untill you get your government mandated breaks. Most companies have so many smokers that they allow people to step out here and there for a smoke

Laws regarding breaks vary from state to state. There's no specifics about cigarette breaks.

Federal law does not require lunch or coffee breaks. However, when employers do offer short breaks (usually lasting about 5 to 20 minutes), federal law considers the breaks work-time that must be paid. Unauthorized extensions of authorized work breaks need not be counted as hours worked when the employer has expressly and unambiguously communicated to the employee that the authorized break may only last for a specific length of time, that any extension of the break is contrary to the employer's rules, and any extension of the break will be punished.

Bona fide meal periods (typically lasting at least 30 minutes), serve a different purpose than coffee or snack breaks and, thus, are not work time and are not compensable.

it varies with each and every job

I live in Ontario Canada, and the rule is that you get a 15 min break every 2 hours and a 30 min lunch. What you do with that time is up to you

smokers and nonsmokers should have the same # of break times. most employers I know allow 1/2 hr for lunch and two15 min breaks-1 in the first half and 1 in the second half of your shift
