Think you've been getting good advice - no need to bother with solicitors - they only use registration agents anyway and stick a mark up on (or take a commission which amounts to the same thing) - Exchange and Mart type ads are fine but personally I wouldnt go for the ABSOLUTE cheapest - you never know when you might want to make some sort of an impression with the bits of paper you get - and you WILL need a seal sometime I'd have money on it so may as well get it "All-in" where its loads cheaper

in the UK?

Companies House is the place to find out everything you want to know.
http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/

Also, there are many limited companies that are set up and registered but never trade - you can buy them as up-and-running without all the lengthy paperwork and time delays that are inevitable when dealing with a government agency. I bought one a few years back, cost me less than 80 quid.

I registered my Limited Company with an online company who did everything for me and registered my company with Companies House. The whole lot cost approximately £100 and it was all done within a day! I received the certifiacte of registration via email which meant I could set up accounts with suppliers immediately. They also have a postal service and address service (it means that I have a London address with an EC postcode despite living in the country). You can find various companies online. It's best to research a few as they do charge different prices.

Job centres have advisor on this subject and can be very helpful.

try companies house

you can register a company yourself, however its probably best to do it via a lawyer or accountant. The reaon its possible to mess it up.. if its done by an accountant, or at least someone used to doing it there is less risk of it going wrong, there is a come back if theydo it wrongly

the reality is you will need an accoutnant for the company, but not an accountant.... go figure

You can easily do it online for a moderate amount...

There are 3 ways to register your Limited Company in the UK:

Directly with Companies House- you'll need to know what you're doing.

With a formation agent - easier process, simplified and can be the cheapest option.

And accountant - expensive for what could be a simple process.

Transferred from sole status to Ltd in 2004 and I used a formation agent. I can't remember the name of the company but it cost me approx £30 for a two day turnaround. It'll also depend if you what the extras that come in the package. Also make sure that the company is reputable too, there are many scam artists out there.

You can also buy a company which you've started from scratch or buy a ready made company and just change the details ie company name, company secretary after the company has been registered.

Just be careful though that you rightfully own the ready made company as previously some formation agents would insist that they are a director or company secretary of YOUR company.

Good luck

this could be the simpleist answer. try the back of the exchange & mart magazine there are loads of ltd company's all types and they do all the work. for about £100.

Go to Companies House. They are a mine of helpful information.
If you're bright enough it is an easy process. Costa about £125 to register a company.
Go there first. Don't spend any money with anyone else until you have.

Dang
Ask for a lawyer to do for you or go directly to registrar of business to register. You would require to pay some adminstrative charge and deposit liability for it.
