Well... the easy way is to wait for them to call again... when they do ask them politely to stop calling, that you do not wish them to call again. If not they dont stop send them a letter. If they don't stop them you can sue them for big $$

Pay them!

You could get an answering machine and/or a caller i.d. Also, you could get an unlisted number. You might even start sending small payments with a letter explaining your financial situation and why it is necessary for your payments to be small.

SPLATT
Pay your bills on time. Then they stop calling.

1. negotiate a settlement with them and pay your bill (it is going to show up anyway sooner or later on your credit report that you never paid your bill)

2. Tell them that you want to be taken off their lists. I used to work for a telemarketing company and whenever someone asked us to do that, I would always have to delete their names in our database, though i'm not sure if collection agencies have to follow this rule.

3. If they still harass you, switch phone numbers. Usually you can do this for free once through your phone service provider...is usually a hassle to let everyone know your new number, but at least this will keep them from calling you (for at least awhile).
PS-when you switch numbers, be sure you tell the phone company you do not want to be listed in the phone directory. You usually have to pay a small fee, but it is worth it. =)
Good luck!

Jen
You can't remove your number from a company that you do or have done business with.
However, you can notify a company in writing and tell them that you do not wish to be contacted by phone anymore and they legally have to comply. They can only call you to let you know if they intend to pursue any legal actions.
If they call for collections or harrassment, they can be fined or sued.

if you are doing business with them, they do not have to conform to the "do-not call" regs. Best way to get them to quit calling is to answere the call and make arrangements (schedule) to pay what you owe. Or....you could disconnect you land line and just use your cell. (That is if you have one, and did not give the # to the creditors)

Jedi Master <S I T H><
you cant, they have the right to call you. BUT having said that they have the right to call only ONCE per month. so either get caught up, declare bankruptcy, or stop answering the phone...

you have to send each creditor a certified letter stating further contact by phone will be considered harrasment, they have 30 days to comply. You must give them an alternate means of contact though, like a mailing address or PO Box.

Clockwork Grape
change phone number.

Just pay your bills on time, and you'll NEVER get another such call!

Learn to live within your means, and stop spending money (by credit cards) you don't have.

Each time a creditor calls you, tell them not to call you anymore and they can't - do this to each creditor.
