If the Packers aren't playing, I'm NOT watching. But, I have a friend who tapes the Super Bowl just for the commercials. She fast forwards through the game to get to the commercials. Go figure! <*)))>< |

I watched it because the Steelers played. I did like the commercials also. But mainly because of the Steelers and I like football. |

Football period has the most extreme set of commercials I have ever seen. I always flip by to see a few of them. Other than that, the sport's a snore. |

Watched only the half time show, saw half of the Rolling Stones entertainment. They were only half as good as i remember them to be half a century ago, but they don't have half the reasons to perform they used to have.
Hope this answers your question half way. |

Its because the Steelers were playing. They are arguably the most adored football team in the nation. Many cities (outside of Pennsylvania) actually have Steeler bars (and no, they don't have exclusive bars for the other teams in those cities as well).
The Steelers established a huge fan base in the 70s for winning 4 superbowls. On top of that, it was an industrially rich part of the nation with steel mills. When the steel mills shut down, the steelers fans moved to other parts of the countries with their families, but still held on to that Steeler pride. You will not find another team with fans that seem to be all over the nation.
This probably explains why Superbowl XL was the most watched television event next to the last episode of Mash. |
