mentalfission | Does the government lick the envelopes? |
Sorry for such a vague question, let me explain. For example, tax time. So many checks get sent out by the IRS in a short period of time. I know there isn't some poor guy just sitting at a desk licking 1000 envelops a day. I was just wondering if large buisnesses and the government have machines to fill, label, and seal the envelop. Is there any human labor required in this type of project? |

They have a fascinating machine that stuffs, licks, seals and collates. The only real human labor is to stock the machine wtih envleopes and transport it to the waiting trucks to take to the post office |

LOL... I'm sure there isn't... but maybe one of the Democrat candidates could make that part of their new Economic Stimulus agenda.... hiring people to be government official lickers! |

wow. i never thought about that. that is actually a really cool question, really makes me think. i can only assume that they have machines that do it, or they use the kind of envelopes that are already sticky, with a wax-paper type strip over the glue strip, so it doesn't stick b4 they want it to, then they just peel it off. but if they didn't do either of those, i personally would not want to be the guy who had to lick those envelopes. imagine getting a paper cut. ouch.
yeah, that's a totally awesome question. |

The IRS and large corporations use a special meter machine, which can put postage on and then seal the letters in a single pass through the machine. In fact, the are smaller machines that can do both jobs also. It passes through a special part that wets the glue and then seals it. |

I think they have everyone working there bring a jar of their spit for money, maybe even some hobos off the street, dump it into the Sealing Machine, and let it run! as every envelope passes, a goop of a thousand people's spit is splotched onto the sticky part of the envelope and stamped down.
wouldnt that be cool :D |

They have a machine; though as slow as it is to get tax returns sometimes I wonder if there is some slob with a thousand paper cuts on his tongue working for the IRS. |
