Friend of mine drank a beer and drove down the street to the local gas staion here, yes, that is bad, no one should drink and drive, well, he was being a little to loud and they called the cops, well, he got arrested for drinking and driving, all though they didn't see him driving but his truck and him were there, any way here's his punishment: He in on probation for a year, has to pay a $1,000 fine, has to pay for AA meeting and MADD meeting has to go to them once a week for three years and the cost is $130 a month for three years, he has to pay to have a breathalizer put in his truck and it has to remain there for a year, he has a curfew now, has to be back home every night at 10 Pm every night for the next year, they are going to make a suprise visit three times a year for the next year and if there's any alcohol in the house he will go to jail....this is first time drinking and driving and I know it was sooo wrong, but is it just me or this a little harsh? Does this sound right?...

He does deserve punishment I know, but I know people who have got caught with drugs that didn't get this much, he has a baby and a family to take care of and this just seems like alot of punishment for his first time, but I could be wrong, has anyone else got caught drinking and driving, what was your punishment?...What do you think about this? |

sounds about right, maybe just a LITTLE too harsh, but I think the punishment should be something like that. the 10 PM curfew and any alcohol in the house and you go to jail parts are a little tough. However if he does have a family to suport he needs to learn to NEVER drink and drive this punishment is better for his family then having him dead in a car crash because the punishment wasn't harsh enough. What about the other guy in the car crash? He might have a family too. |

Sounds right to me. Don't drink and drive. What if on the way to the gas station he had killed someone. Could have easily happened. He should just be thankful that this is all that happened. Could be in prison for the rest of his life. |

well...it depends on what state you live in...some states are not as nice when it comes to these sorts of crimes(like Georgia). However, I am thankful because it teaches us all to be more careful and mindful of what we are doing. |

I think that anyone who drives drunk should get punished. But also i think that your friends punishment was a little too harsh. They should just fined him, or gave him probation. I think that the police should have been out there catching other people then trying so hard to punish your fun. Your friend should be glad to be alive, and/or not a murder. He could have killed himself or others. That would not have been fair to his family/child, or anyone else family. He is very lucky his life was saved. |

I don't believe your story.
No one is going to be arrested for driving after drinking one beer. Does he have a history of DUI?
You say he got loud; did he also get violent? There is something you're not telling us. |

That is completely nuts!! He shouldn't have been arrested for drinking and driving unless he was actually pulled over, and only if the breathalizer proved he was over the limit. Are you sure he only drank one beer? The punishment seems like something for someone who has been arrested for this before.. |

If what you reported is accurate, he had a law school flunkie for an attorney! Any good atty. would have gotten him out of that with MAYBE a year probation and a six week drinking and driving course, if they could have even gotten the DUI charges to stick at all. |

Thats crap, stupid pigs are always making our lives hell. I had a friend who got caught drinking and WALKING, yeah believe it, it happens. Anyway, he got 1 year probation and a 2000 fine. To make matters worse, the stupid cops held him for 5 days thinking he was an excaped convict from Missouri. Its all about meeting qoutas. |

Does he have a record for anything other than drinking & driving. It does sound really harsh for someone who's had no previous run-in with the law. Maybe they are just trying to make an example out of him. |

It may have been his first drinking and driving offence but it sounds as though they may have him for other alcohol related offences. If it is his first alcohol offence of any kind then that is heaps harsh |
