It most certainly does. I was down south once and saw it first hand. The children there were fishing for sewer trout in the city's public drain pool and you could clearly see the counterclockwise rotation. The pipes emptying into it and the center swirl were all turning backwards.

I'm not sure about that.... I've actually always heard that it flushed in different directions on different sides of the Continental Divide. I have absolutely no answer as to why though.

"They had three sinks. One set up directly over the equator and the others a few meters on either side of the equator just barely in each hemisphere. Each sink was filled with water. When the plug was pulled on the sink in the Northern Hemisphere the water circled in the familiar (to me) clockwise direction. When the plug was pulled on in the sink in the Southern Hemisphere the water circled the opposite direction in a counterclockwise direction. Can you guess what happened to the water in the sink directly over the equator? Find the answer at the end of this letter. We returned back to our room on the bus and could not wait to flush the toilet and watch the water circle in the opposite direction to what we were used to.
