Estimated value of the Catholic Church?
I was told by a friend the other day that the Catholic Church is the richest institution on the planet, is this the case? And if so, has anyone ever calculated the estimated total worth of the Church in total?
Additional Details
At Tina, the reason I ask about the Roman Catholics is that there's more Catholics than any other religious affliation on the planet.

Alot of their wealth comes from artifacts that are beyond value and can't be sold off anyway. So far a liquidity, they have hundreds of millions. Which may make them the richest institution. But I don't know an exact figure, and to research it you may find a few walls to high to climb.

On a side note, the Queen is basically under the same monetary rules. She's super rich, but when you take away the things that belong to the "Monarchy" not the Monarch, she's on rich. Because alot of stuff she has no control to sell and therefore is not considered in her personal worth.

I'd say unknown wealth, probably equal in wealth to those big Universities that own massive properties in big cities across the world. And just as a passing thought, aren't all religious institutes wealthy, do they own their own land and not pay taxes? Why the Catholics? There are other big ones like Scientology, some big dollar sign names in that group.......
And by the way, how about those attending, they are often not wealthy, wealthy spiritually perhaps.....

1000000000000000000000000000000000000000... $

it's simply because, people want the objects that the vatican holds, but the vatican won't sell them. This makes their value rise with time and inflation.

It's not that vatican has vast amounts of money coming in from different channels. It's like your house, it could be worth 250K but you don't go around saying you got 250k to spend.

They are also the biggest registered charity in the world, so i assume they have alot of outgoings as well.

The wealth comes from the artifacts that they have that are priceless.

As an organisation it isint a single entity but parishes.

The vatican has made a loss each year since its accounts were made public under JP2nd.

I think they made a profit of 1 million in 07 though.

So all the wealth is based on property and things that they couldnt sell anyway and comes from being the original church set up by Christ.

However its worth bearing in mind that the catholic church is the biggest charity on earth and does more to help the poor and suffering that all the other groups combined.
