The Bible teaches that you must believe upon the name of the Lord and then you will be saved. It also says in Johh 3:16 that God so loved the entire world so that anyone who believes in him can have eternal life.
I encourage you to ask yourself and think about it carefully. What does it mean to give yourself to Jesus. It means that you will change your ways and you will live a new life not for yourself but for Him. You will surrender your desires and instead allow the Holy Spirit to transform you.
Merely, praying the sinners prayer is not sufficent to earn you a ticket to heaven.

Heaven will definately greet you when you pass if you give your life to Jesus. However, giving your life to Jesus will also produce a better life here on earth. Even if you take the Jesus and God language out of the bible, you will see that the book is a guidline to a great life. By following the example set by God, you will finally have the satisfaction you desire in your heart. Get ahold of a readable copy of the Bible. (I.E. The Message bible can be picked up at any Barnes and Noble) Versions that can be read and understood will determine whether or not you dig deeper. Also find yourself a good church that DOESN'T act crazy. (I.E. stomping on snakes, speaking in tounges, mass healings with holy water.) Ask questions and use your brain. Then, when you are ready, you will submit your life to God and be content.
