TimeWastersInc | Guns don't kill people, Doctors do? |
Medical Doctors:
(A) The number of medical doctors in the U.S. is 700,000
(B) Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year are 120,000
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 17.14%
*****Statistics courtesy of the U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services*****
Guns:
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000 (yes that's 80 million)
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.001875%
***Statistics courtesy of the FBI*** Additional Details So statistically, medical doctors are approximately 9,000 times more
dangerous than gun owners. Remember, guns don't kill people, doctors do?

True. Its good for business when people are sick.
"One of the really amazing books of our time is Medical Nemesis, by Ivan Illich (Bantam, 1977). One in five hospital patients is there today because a physician's mistake put him or her there. George Washington's doctors actually killed him with their prescriptions. No kidding. (Medical and Physical Journal, London, 1800, Volume 3, page 409, and Appendix 2 of this book). Each year, doctor-prescribed drugs kill far more Americans than street drugs do. Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN) statistics indicate fewer than 10,000 deaths annually from illegal drugs (National Institute on Drug Abuse, Statistical Series 1:9, 1989). 130,000 Americans die in hospitals each year due to prescription medication. (Whitaker, J., in Health and Healing, September 1993 Supplement, Phillips Publishing, page 3). The Journal of the American Medical Association states that over 100,000 deaths annually are due just to normal, expected side effects of prescription drugs. (quoted by FDA Acting Commissioner Michael Freidman, MD, June 22, 1998, on PBS's Newshour with Jim Lehrer.) Vitamins are a vastly safer alternative.
The Merck Manual still recommended bloodletting for some ailments as late as the 1934 edition. (Wall Street Journal, May 3, 1983, and Appendix 2 of this book)
According to a 1993 statement by Ralph Nader, 300,000 Americans are killed in hospitals each year. These deaths are due to doctors' mistakes, not euthanasia. "

Your 17.14% accidental deaths per physician is way off.
Your conclusions are flawed.
The patients that saw the physicians already had impaired health. The number of patients treated per death is a meaningful statistic, not the number of deaths divided by physicians.
The accidental gunshot victims were healthy. You also have not included gunshot crime victims. Are they less dead? |

WOW i did not know that!!! |

False. The statistics are skewed because it doesn't take into consideration the number of patients vis a vis the number of available doctors who have to give them medical attention. If you have 1 doctor who has to attend to 100 patients all at once, some of them urgently needing medical attention all at once, naturally the quality of care will go down because doctors are only human.
Another factor would be that there are more instances wherein a human will need medical attention than a gun owner would need to use his/her gun and take it out of its hiding place thereby resulting in an accidental death.
IOW, those statistics do not tell the entire story and could lead to false conclusions such as the ones made by those who answered before me. |

It's true. It is my belief that doctors are evil, don't know how to cure people, and will usually cause more harm than good. We have natural remedies for almost any ailment that have been around for thousands of years... and these methods are tried and true, and yet they are simply shunned by the medical community because no corporation can own them. |

Stats sure are amazing things aren't they. You can manipulate them to say anything you want them to say which sure is a sad statement on behalf of the Doctors |

also since Arizona went to concealed carry weapons permits for persons who want to, robberies of establishments have declined 40% in the first year. And that's because the bad guys don't know who is carrying and who is not any more. One Phoenix Officer was saved by a civilian passer by who had noticed the officer was in a crossfire situation and by giving him support fire and taking out one of the bad guys the officer survived the ordeal where as he might not in normal circumstances. |

Doctors are trying to help their patient. Whether they fail or not is not the issue. Guns are a different story entirely. Accidentle gun deaths don't happen if you don't have a gun near your children, or anyone who doesn't know how to use it.
In one case, you fail while trying to do something good for someone. In another case, you're being careless and outright stupid. |

Ask youself: why were the people in interaction with a doctor? Probably because they were sick to begin with. True, malpractice is unfortunately quite common, but the statistics are likely skewed in this case. |

Funny, Kaiser Hospitals in northern California recognize the number of deaths by mistake in their own hospitals and have implimented policies to help lessen the mistakes made. This sure sounds better for all patients than trying to deny that there is a serious problem in the medical field that is killing normal healthy patients by mistakes made during normal procedures. The comments here are just more proof that the Medical Industry is an out of control fraud and needs to be re-organized to be effective and stop killing patients.......... |

I don't have a gun. Sometimes I think I should be I'm scared to have one in the house as most gun "accidents" are against a family member that surprises the gun owner or just a freak accident.
Yes, this definitely ties to doctors. They are now killing many others by "accidents". I've been assaulted (definitely NOT an accident) by the hospital staff under the direct supervision of two specialists. They are protected by "law", ostensibly by the FDA preemption. Due to that I've been fired and the "health" insurance has taken away my retirement, forever, and has replaced it with a "disability" retirement which is not enough money to live on. While this is not enough to live on, I will have to repay, again, and again, my retirement back to the "health" insurance company, even to get any job at all. I've applied for thousands of jobs, on the mainstream and the "disability" job websites, only to be screamed at "WE DON'T HIRE THE DISABLED". The endless governmental agencies have all refused any help "whatsoever".
So my question is, since this a financial discussion forum, can you tell me how the hell I'm supposed to survive? Any viable suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
