I think it would help if we were able to edit our QUESTIONS, (I wrote answers, and obviously we are able to edit those MWAH HA HA!)
I work in customer service, and believe me it isn't just online. You would be amazed at the letters we get sometimes. My favorite was a lady wanting to cancel her order with us because her "peoples ain't focking" That would be pupils aren't focusing, she was trying to tell us her sight was going bad. I had to call her to even see what she meant.
Some users are also either very young, or speak another language, so I just try to overlook it. |

In addition to the above reasons given by others, I think a root part of the cause may be the eroding of standards in all areas. Nobody is held responsible for their actions in any way, so why bother to spell if you can get the gist of your meaning across?

In addition to that, every (younger) generation has longed for a language of their own that the old ones won't understand. With so little in the way of physical power, the most common defenses of the young are to lie or to hide. Also, it may be a reaction to immigrant parents using the 'mother tongue from the old country' to talk about 'the things you don't talk about in front of the kids'. So they want a language of their own.
Another strong motivation (I believe) that is peculiar to Answers is that many people want to be the first to answer, before anybody else uses the clever quip they've thought of. And I would suspect that statistically, more early answers are selected 'best' than ones later on. So people are in a hurry here.
I check my own spelling (personally, not using the built-in), but it is always possible that I let something slip. If that is the case, my apologies. |

You make a very good point.
For years we have been told that form does not matter; only content is important. This is just an excuse for laziness and poor communication skills. How many misunderstandings have caused major problems because people did not know how to communicate their thoughts effectively and clearly? |

I agree. It is hard to read some of the questions that people put in here. How do they expect to get advice if they can't spell. That's one reason we have spell check. |
