It has to do with rarity and use. Gold was used originally for coins because only governments had access to it. Today people still trade in gold and have coins. But many people have it for jewelry. Iron, is used in construction and is the main component in steel. Would you rather have the material in a nail wrapped around your finger or gold? Also, gold is one of the best conductors, and is used in the construction of electronic contacts on ciruits boards. |

Iron is easly found so its cheap and in large quantity where as gold you have to dig dipper in the earth and the cost to find gold is more than iron so its expensive and considered precious. |
