We try to drive less and drive to places that are closer to home. We don't eat out during the week and try to buy groceries every two weeks instead of every week. |

I'm moving about 5 minutes away from my work. Which is currently half an hour away. All because of gas prices. Also I have a F150 truck that's a gas hog, I'm considering trading it in. |

i walk for groceries, movies, pretty much any errands i can run on weekends when i have the time to walk and get stuff, also by walking it limits how much i can buy because i have to carry it all back home |

I have quit driving except when absolutely necessary. No weekend trips, no running around to visit people. I also have quit eating out, the money has to go into my gas tank to get to work. At the grocery story I watch what I buy and have to really budget, where I was comfortable a year ago, the same paycheck doesn't go as far now, I'm really having to budget.
Too bad the paychecks don't go up as often as the gas prices. |

I have cut back on a lot of things such as eating out and soda pop. I have switched brands to cheaper brands and I try to combine all my trips into one. We haven't been shopping in ages! I would love to be able to go blow some money, but that ain't happening anytime soon. |

I currently work in dc and live near baltimore. I have to turn down a new job because it cost too much to drive there, i currently take the train into work. now that sucks. I also started a small herb and pepper garden so that I adjust some of my food cost. I definitely need to go shopping and unfortunately I cant. I am currently on a diet so that I can wear some old clothes of mine that are in good shape. This economy is sad. Great question. |

I RARELY ever leave the house and i don't buy gas in my town. It's almost 4 bucks!!! I make atrip once every two weeks or so to gas station 30 miles away (once i saved almost 30 cents a gallon!) and do some LIGHT shopping in that area. I'm supposeed to be using premium gas in my car, but that is not likely thing for me to do. hahahaha |

I drive less and am thinking about riding my motorcycle unless I am shopping for groceries. |

Well, now I shop at Target for my storebrand whole wheatbread $1.19 and my butter $2.29/lb.
The grocery store I used to buy these items at raised the price of bread from $1.29 to $1.69 for store brand whole wheat and raised the store brand of butter from $2.49 to $3.29. However, this store still has the lowest milk price at $3.79/gallon for 1%.

The second thing it has affected is I do not eat out anymore. I do not shop at the spur of the moment anymore and I stick to a list of necessities now. In the past, I would go to Kohl's or WalMart on a whim just to window shop and end up buying clothes, housewares and whatnot. I do not do this now. I save this spree money for necessities such as gas and food.
Our family also does not go to the movies anymore either. We wait until it comes out on DVD.

I also am doing more mending of socks, shirts and pants to make them last longer. In the past, I would set holey socks aside as rags. Now I darn them. |

I try to combine trips & I'm seriously thinking about buying a scooter ($2000), because they get about 80 miles to the gallon! Other than this, nothing has really changed. Maybe you should make your own coffee at home & bring it in a thermos. |

It completely affects us. We are suddenly broke! Gas tanks are now always empty. $4 a gallon?! Psh. Grocery prices have doubled. Half of the homes on my street are in foreclosure. This is absolutly ridiculous. We need a new president NOW!!! |

Only go "to town" for work. Any shopping I do gets done after work (I live 30 miles out of town).
We've been eating a lot of Ramen noodles. Eating out is nearly nonexistent. Soda is being replaced with powdered drink mix like generic Kool-Aid, but without the sugar and calories. |

The price of gas and groceries, are what they are. If you don't like it then drive less, and eat less expensive meals. We north Americans waste way too much, I read that if China was to waste what we do, the world could not produce enough food for one year. |

I can't afford to fill up my gas tank making $7.45 an hour. I'm in school and I smoke, and usually buy my own groceries. It's a nightmare, I'm struggling each week and I've cut back on smoking A LOT, hopefully i will quit. I don't go out as much as i used to and i don't eat out much either. I go to the clearance rack for new cloths or to thrift shops. I have NO summer cloths at all but I just can't afford a shopping spree and i refuse to use a credit card for cloths b/c that's just stupid, it's stuff I really don't need. Idk how much more i can take, but its horrible....I can't imagine being a single mom or trying to buy food for a family right now.. |

I live in a small town. Have a Wal-mart and K-Mart and couple of grocery stores - that's pretty much it. Always enjoyed going about 40 miles to large town for day out, shopping, eating out. Now I won't pay the price of gas to go. I'm shopping locally, eating at home more, and not as may impulse purchases. Started drinking more water, less pop. Shopping for groceries at discount grocery, and only buy the sale items at chain grocery stores. Even started coupon clipping. Thinking of planting a garden but we have such high water charges, don't know that it would save me any money. Saving up all of the out of town things I need and going about once a month and getting them all. Also, lot of graduations this month, gifts are not going to be as expensive. |

We don't buy unnecessary items nearly as often...when I do shop, I try and combine trips, shop closer to home, or purchase items on the internet.
I have found myself telling my daughter she can't go places if it means I have to make more trips.
I drive the compact truck I was teaching her to drive on & planning to pass down to her because it gets better gas mileage than my SUV.
We have a garden & are growing some of our own produce, and plan to trap/fish/hunt for wild game to supplement our meat supply when it's the appropriate season to do so.
Also, I would say the yard doesn't get mowed as often, because fuel for the lawn tractor is so high. |

Current prices on everything has changed our way of life, from the carefree days to days of frugality.. We cut back everywhere..
For gas
We rarely go anywhere and when we do, we combine our tasks into a single trip.
We bought a car that gets 45mpg on the highway .
For Food We learned to be quick and creative..
When it gets too expensive, we don't buy it.. ie We haven't bought fresh tomatoes, or milk in over a year, and use water as a substitute in receipes that call for milk.
When we shop for food we buy reduced priced items.. For meat: we head straight to the bin where the grocer puts out reduced priced meat (day old) , and for bread we head to the "we baked too much rack" or to bread thrift store and buy the reduced priced stuff. Sometimes, I make my own bread. For canned goods we shop the dollar aisle or buy the cheapest store label we can find.. We use margerine instead of butter, and buy small or medium eggs instead of large.. I make my own pasta sauce from dollar priced big cans of tomato juice, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, meat and spices that I bought for 2 for a buck.. We stretch roasts, and hamburg to make no less then 3 days worth of meals. A turkey or ham, can make meals for about a week and a half. And we shop at a store that offers 5 items for $20.00..where the choice can be meats, cheeses, frozen entries, lunch meats.. ect). For seafood, We get fish fillets in packages where 2 fillets cost a buck and we bread them ourselves..We eat a lot of rice, and make our own onion rings and salads from scratch We rarely have fruit, unless it is on sale, or we get something canned that is cheap.. We eat out four times a year at a cheap buffet place, and about twice a month either by getting a $5.00 pizza, or something off the dollar menu at a fast food place. For treats, I bake, make popcorn, or have dollar store cookies.. We use very few pre prepared foods.. I even make waffles from scratch rather then buy the store bought ones. We check the ads, and take advantage of sales on food. We almost never use coupons, because even with the coupon reductions, the bottom line price on the couponed item is usually more expensive then the generic brand.. So with all the reductions, our groceries come out to an average of 40 to 50 bucks or less a week.. We buy generic coffee or what is on sale that is cheaper, or we buy coffee at the flea market..
For clothing .. we wear what we have, and shop twice a year.. buying only what we absolutely need.
For entertainment, we watch tv, or go fishing, or do things that are cheap or free. We haven't been to a movie in about 5 years.
For phone we use an online service, that is the cheapest. For our cell phone we got one you buy for ten bucks, and buy minutes for, using it only for emergencys...
We gradually have sold off a lot of stuff to make ends meet when we had too.. .And that is how it is done.. |

Well yesterday it way $3.98 and this morning it's $4.09. For starters I don't have cable, no Internet, cut way back on food, and still gonna have to more. How is it affecting my normal way of life? Well it's getting pretty stressful.
What is the tumbs down for??? Ya trying to stress me out even more???? LOL just kidding, I really don't care, have a good one. But that's about the tumbs down, not the gas that I do really care about....

So true and I hear you, we have no other options but to do these things. Also everyone used to tose the ends of the bread out, not anymore. |

I think global warming is really affecting us all. The gas prices are outrageous and so are grocery prices. It is killing us all. We no longer go to just hang out and do something. We only go out for a reason. This inflation thing is stupid |
