How can I get rid of stage fear?

remember it's normal to feel this way. you're not alone in having this.

just knowing that other people have the same feeling makes it easier for me to face an audience. you can also reduce your stress by:
*thoroughly mastering your subject matter, whether it's drama or a debate.
*pace yourself! take deep breaths and don't go too fast. this will help you organize your thoughts better.
*visualize yourself being on stage before you actualy do it. picture what the stage area looks like, the lighting, and the audience. if it's possible, do a run-through on the actual stage before your performance.

hope all goes well for you. good luck!

you have to know deep inside that these people came to see you act, and most wouldnt have the courage to do what you do, nor the memory to remember your lines, So already you are well ahead of the curve, they are no better than you most not even as good as you, ply your craft with pride.

Dr Dee
You have to imagine in your mind that nobody's watching. You would easily get rid of the fear then.

PRACTICE IN FRONT OF A MIRROR. BREATHE DEEPLY BEFORE GOING ON STAGE. THINK HOW WONDERFUL YOUR PERFORMANCE WILL BE.

Anna
I thing u should practice talking infront of yours friends and then started to join small competation and take a deep breath. Talk look at their forehead so u are not that stress.

Well, if it's a play or you're going to give a speech, practice your lines well until you know them not only in your head but in your heart. This is very important because "stage fright" often paralyzes the speaker onstage but if you know what you want to say in your heart, you can ad lib from there if ever this happens to you.

There are those who advocate thinking of the audience as rocks or whatever and although this helps for the first couple of times, it may hamper your rapport with them. I suggest that you scan the audience for a sympathetic listener or an empathetic person and think that you're speaking to this person alone who shares the rapport between you two. From a distance, the audience will now know that you are focusing on one person alone. Of course, once you are comfortable, you can glance around the room and I am pretty sure that you will find two or more supporters and allies in the audience.

Best way is to get on the stage and do it. Sort of like learning to swim, just get in the water and start flapping.

Knowing the material is key. Reherse like you perform over and over again. Some practive 15 minutes for every one minute of material. Then get out there and do it. Play infront of a small and accepting gathering, like partens, relatives, and friends.

Realize things go wrong, but if you know the material you can figure thru this on the fly because the show must go on.

?Mr:Question?
I agree focus on breathing, your lines, your performance.
Dont try the underwear thing because it makes u think of the audience. For me was just thinking of my line. Focus on yourself and you should be fine.

Confidence is the key. it's cliche but try being confident. it works 100% of the time. NEVER think about what OTHER PEOPLE think OF you because it doesn't bring any help at all, it's GOOD to KNOW WHAT THEY THINK BUT DON'T LET THE COMMENTS AFFECT YOU. although, their good or bad comments will give you room for improvement but still! don't let the pressure come in. be confident, feel good about yourself.

Ah.. stage fright. The most normal communication element availabe to us. The fear from being on stage is normal. Fear provides nevousness and nervousness provides energy. It is mentioned in Speech communication books the essence of fear strikes everyone who has ever given a great stage performance.
Fear of being stared at, failure, rejection, and the unknown are perfectly normal. There is no cure for stage fright, there are ways to take advantage of it. Being nervous on stage will provide much needed energy for the body to continue throughout the stage appearance. Adrenaline will set in causing us to experience positive nervousness. Learn a great deal about topic befor the stage appearance. Prepare thoroughly. Imagine being effective on the stage. Know shyness is not a barrier. Shift focus onto giving the audience the performance. Use elaborate visual appearance. Understand the exact setting the stage will appear in. Devote extra practice to the beginning of the time on stage.

Immediately before the stage appearance. Verify all equipment and materials are present. Get acclimated with the audience(socialize). Show up extra early to the stage appearance. Take a few deep breaths. Do some exercises to get the blood flowing..

During the stage appearance. Pause a few seconds before the start if allowable. Allow nervousness to provide energy. Think of giving the audience communication rather than performing to the audience. Know that most nervous symptoms are not seen or ignored by the audience. Never mention being nervous or apoligize for it in front of the audience. The audience need not upset a stage performer. Act poised and confident. Look directly at the audience when allowable. Speak at a moderate pace, not too fast. Get the audience actions early in the performance. Eliminate extra energy by letting body movements follow the performance. Accept imperfection. We all make mistakes. And most importantly Welcome the experience.

Always practice a lot in front of a few people first then proceed on with more audience .u sure will get over it one day.:]
