Instead of mowing the lawns yourself, I personally would start a small business, where you find the clients and your staff or friends, mow the lawns for you/or shovel show, etc.. Lets say you charge them $20/ time and you pay your staff/friends $15/lawn.
Honestly in life, the small money is made by employee's. Take the above example... you get paid $20.00 you pay $15.00 therefore you make a fairly easy $5.00 As an employee you will never be paid what you are worth. If a company ever did that they would go out of business, because they would make no money. The big money is made by Business owners, because they learn THE POWER OF DUPLICATION (sorry for the caps but I want to get the point across). Take Bill Gates for example...if he went on holidays for 6 months of the year would Microsoft collapse... absolutely not. When Ray Kroc died did McDonald's close down... nope, he died over 10 years ago, and McDonald's is still going strong!
Anyway this may be a little much... but it's something for you to think about! |

When I was about that age, I would go house to house and wash cars. I didn't have a specific price that I would charge, I just said, when I finish, you tell me how much you think it is worth. This worked like a charm! People felt bad not paying me well fearing that they would hurt my feelings, after all, I was just a little kid trying to make money. |

go through the stuff you dont NEED any more and ask youre parents to help you sell it on ebay or someone interested.
i assume ou are good with all aspects of computers, so here's a way to make serious money. Offer web design and publishing. Go around youre neighborhood and tell people that yo can make them a web page on their hobbies/themselves etc. Its simple and if you are not too clued up about it, you can learn the basics on the web in less than 10 minutes.
Offer to make business cards.
be innovative, today sentreupeners make livings without any hassles by be creative.You can be a millionaire if you are creative and persitant.

You didn't say exactly when you were going, but let's assume you are going in the summer 2008. If you mow 4 lawns a week at $20/lawn, that's $80 per week. I'm not sure where you live, but if you do that all summer long that's $1280. If you babysit on the weekends at $20 per night (or sometimes more), that's another $2400, assuming you babysit twice a week every week for the next 15 months. It can be done, and you can't spend ANY money if you really want to go. Save every dime you make and you can do it. You can advertise babysitting by posting signs at the local grocery stores. Also, you said you are good with computers, you can advertise that you will type up papers for college students. Good luck!! |

depending on why you are going try "Fundraising" efforts.... If you can think of a good reason that you would benefit culturally (that means you will be more responsible or sensitive to the world around you) , or if you are going to do a good deed while you are there you can always solicit companies for help.... Just write a catchy letter to local travel agencies or anyone else that may have what you need to get there, often times schools and "Cultural Societies" will think this is good for you.. Then follow up with a few phone calls explaining what you are doing and find out who is in charge of charitable donations.. At a minimum I'll bet you get an extra special discount or bonus miles or something....
Just make sure you ask your parents for permission, they may come in handy when you need to get passort... |

You may find Michael Dell's book Direct From Dell inspiring. He talks about his entreprenurial spirit as a kid- and how in high school he made more money than his teacher.
Think about this: if you mow the lawns, you make all the money but will be limited by your own time and ability. If you organize a business, you can have other people mowing the lawns, splitting the money with them, but overall utilizing other people's time and ability to make you more money.
There's always online businesses- these are things that can continue to work for you even after you go on your trip! |

One way I made some extra cash recently was to sell candy i bought at costco. I bought the bars for about 33 cents and sold them for a dollar. You can say your fundraising for your trip and make up to 50 dollars a day. |

You might see about helping plant flowerbeds and keeping them weeded to go along with your mowing job...I have known people who have earned $50 per flowerbed for planting and then another $50 for keeping it maintained. You might also look at cleaning houses. That is also a good way to make money. |

You should try posting flyers around town that say you are good with computers and that you would be willing to do odd jobs for people like mow lawns, rake leaves, do minor repair work on houses, etc. Anything that will make money and that you feel you are physically capable of doing. Repair work can bring good money at times. If you put the reason you are trying to make the money a lot of people will try to find jobs for you just to help you out. All people love helping children who are working toward something. You could even wash cars. You wouldn't be able to drive them but you could wash them. I know local detail shops charge around 40 dollars per car to wash and clean the inside. You would just have to do it on the person's property. |

To be realistic, I don't think you'll beable to earn that much money in one summer. About all you could do for money is mow lawns, rake leaves, take peoples dogs for walks, & maybe babysit. Make flyers & put an ad in the newspaper. |

the best ways are mowing lawns shovelling, snow. or a paper route. That is quite a bit of cash to earn for a 12 year old.
