How much is too much? You don't want unhappy employees either, sometimes a moment to handle personal business is needed during working hours, cause face it, that's whe businesses are open. Would you rather them taking off work all the time?
But limited access is definitely a good idea! |

Well i am assuming that you mean they are using it for purposes unrelated to wor,so in that case you can set a block on the computer to only allow users limited or not internet access or just change the password so they have to get prior approval from you before going online. Or another option is to look into your brower log (little arrow that shows websites visited) and block those primary sites. I know myspace and other social networking sites are highly used at work and at school and jsut about everywhere else you go. If all else fails make an example out of the next person that breaks the rule and discipline or fire them. Good luck. |

Hire a decent IT consultant for a couple of days to sort it out. |

I work in the IT department and there are several ways you can handle this. How many employees do you have? Does each employee have their own computer or are they shared between more than one person? Do you have a broadcast/public email listing for all of your employees? First, put the fear of God in them and let them know in a team meeting or email broadcast that 'effective this date, your internet usage will monitored' - something like that. Let them that they're being watched. There are ways they can be limited to what they can do on their computers, you need to take charge with this and do something about it immediately! |

well, you could install software to monitor their activity and let them know about it. Or, you could install firewalls on your system that close the commonly used ports for Internet use. Or you could just disconnect Internet use from those computers. Or you could limit what sites they can use on the Internet. It all depends on how your network is set up as well. |

They have a program at my school where one administrator can see all the peoples screens. Not only that but he can lock screens and send messages. |

Use the System Administration funcitonality to require password access to get onto the Computer. Give each employee their own password. You can then track individual CPU usage via login/password activity. Once they know that you are monitoring their usage you will see the non-productive uses of the CPU decrease. |

Disconnect Internet access and they'll quit using it. You also could get a firewall that will block websites that aren't work appropriate. I had the same problem and i blocked all websites except websites of the vendors we deal with. |

Edit the registry to remove icons for internet explorer or create a special login for work purposes. |

You can do like I did for one of my employees. After noticing that this person was using the computer for myspace.com and job searches, I put a password on all sites that only I had access to, or knew. Anytime this person tried to access the internet it would ask for the password. Also, I removed any and all programs that this person did not need to use. This person had installed Yahoo games and other "non-worked-related" software, so I removed it. Once it was gone and the internet was blocked, this person couldn't do anything on the computer but their job. It worked quite nicely.
In internet explorer go to Tools - Internet Options - Content - under Content Advisor click Enable. Just go through each tab and look at which would apply to you. The General tab is where you can establish a Supervisor Password.
Good luck! |

Install cameras (even fake ones) behind the users and make it clear that they are only to be used for invoicing or they will be disciplined.
Or,
Set them up on passwords and track usage, if you want to be more technical |

What you can do is limit the access to the other program except if it neccessary and make sure just the program you want them to use is install in the computer. That is work all the time. |
