They can't and it's not right. Over in America we have some Oil bigwig before a panel today and shall see what this one has to say. It's time we all drive less, ride a bike if we have to, turn down the lights and use less energy. If they can't make money do to lack of interest in their oil the prices will come down ....We did it in the 70's and it worked....Be strong and fight back.....Pass it on as there are more of us then them and I think the common man will win this fight. Learn to deal, mate. We have been burning this stuff for a century pretending that we can make more.
We can't, and it is running out.
You will never see cheap petrol again. Within a finite period of time it will simply no longer be available for anything other than military or aviation purposes. |

You can always use public transport. Or here is a thought.....walk. I know many of us work miles away from home and it is not always easy to get there using public transportation. I think people are going to have to work closer to home. |

There's nothing to do but cut back on luxuries. Buy cheaper clothes, generic food brands etc. Or just plain stop driving which is impossible for people with children, or have to go to work somewhere that their is no public transport available. The government should cut back on the petrol taxes. In Australia we have a state tax, a federal tax and a GST on top of that again. The government is just too greedy. |

I was going to move closer to the factory I work at in Michigan, but I will likely not have a job in a year or a way to get out of this sinkhole. So what's the point? Nobody wants gas-guzzling American cars anymore and I can't afford to get away from the rust belt.
To answer your question more thoroughly, I won't cope. I'll have to go live in the woods somewhere. On that note, how are things across the pond? Any sign of civilization there or are we bringing you down with us? |

Instead of fighting wasteful wars, why don't they spend the money on research to design more energy efficient vehicles.? |

I think that with the whole world becoming automobile drivers that the cost of gas will never get down to a reasonable price
The best thing do, in the long run--- is to move closer to where you work like on a bus or train line so you don't have to drive to work and shopping etc and limit your auto use to real important trips.
A hard pill to take but it's gotta be done for the average worker at least until they find a truly efficient replacement for the gas powered car and I don't mean a hybrid.. |

In an inflating economy,or is that deflating) fuel is the last hold out to not be bought. People have to travel and get to work. The more discretionary things in the economy are hit first, like: Dinning out, entertainment. major appliance purchases, luxury items, etc. It chews from the bottom strata to the top, with those at the bottom being most heavily impacted. |

I like those answers. "Walk, bike, public transportation or work closer to home." Seems a lot of people forget that not everyone has these as options.
I live in a farming community. The nearest town is a 40 minute drive in any direction. So walking, and biking is out of the question. There is no public transportation in a rural community. Working closer to home isn't an option either. Can't ask everyone in the county to relocate their house closer to mine so I can service their furnaces.
Fortunately for me my trade is well paying. Even as a second year apprentice, I still make $24.00 an hour with benefits. So I can afford to spend the $1.29/litre for fuel every week. |
