i dont think u can stop payment on something which has already been paid..

No. That is like telling a diner in a restaurant not to eat an entree when it is already eaten and he is on dessert.

You need to call your bank up and tell them to put a stop payment on it.

Free Spirit
You can't unfortunately. Should have post dated the sucker

Once the check has been presented for payment and has cleared (being paid) against your account, you will not be able to place a stop payment on it. Was the check negotiated by someone other than the payee? If so, was it due to your error (check used to pay the wrong bill)? Or was the check negotiated as an altered or forgered item? If this is the case, then you need to contact your financial institution for further assistance. Depending on the amount on the check, in some states you can go to small claims court. If you decide on this route, just make sure it's worth your time and money, considering the legal costs, etc. The best way is to resolve the issue with the payee for services not rendered.

big bad momma
I've never heard of that being done one the check clears it's a done deal.i believe you would have to go to court to get your money back

And how do you suppose they do that?????

The Advocate
Very liberal banking, it is a "chargeback" or "debit" to them, which they can do at any time, no morality involved on their part!
To press up the issue, take the money out, close the account. You lose the leverage if you let go of the money !

Yes, you can do it up to 30 days after the check was cashed but only if the person deposited the $$ in their account, then the bank will credit the money back out (plus fees). If they just cashed the check, then you're out of luck.

dog_hell_red
I dont think you can do that now. Its too late.
