Very carefully. I would suggest taking it to Petsmart and let them deal with it and the cat won't hate you but if you are bound and determined to wash sir Puss here ya go.
Start with small amounts of warm water on a wash rag. then build up his confidence in the sink and try a little on his back once you get there your home free. Not all cats hate baths but i would wear a long sleeve shirt and have lots of band aids hydrogen peroxide and Neosporin on hand for the ones that do.
P.S. If you are alergic to cat scratches DO NOT lock yourself in the bathroom, the ambulance personel will need easy access or your door will get chopped up. Also if the cat is very aggressive you will hurt yourself trying to run through it. Leave the door open!!

cats generally clean themselves..and are very thorough in doing that..you'd better be off taking to vet..

You will probably only accomplish this once as most cats will freak out when put in water and scratch the heck out of you. Cat's are usually clean themselves but if you are patient you can coax them into taking baths. I used to have a cat that got a bath once a week, pretty soon he would jump in the shower anytime someone was taking a bath or shower. He loved it but the first few times involved deep cuts and bandaids all over me....DONT USE PEOPLE SOAP it is bad for their skin. Use only feline approved care products from the pet store

you can wash a cat by washing it.

Do this in a tub as you're going to need to rinse. Get a bucket where the cat's body will fit in and fill it with warm, slightly soapy water. You can just use baby shampoo or just a LITTLE liquid dish soap. Put the back end of the cat down into the bucket. The cat will want to have its front paws on the rim and it's head out of te water. Gently wash the body of the cat and use a cloth to clean it's head, neck and front paws. If it's got bugs around it's eyes and ears, be very careful and clean gently with a cotton swab. Rinse with fresh warm water.

Towel dry and put the cat somewhere warm and clean. They'll lick themselves for a while.

lock yourselves in bathroom with bath already filled to correct temp. place cat in nicely. hold firmly at all times. maybe you should have extra help here too. like you hold cat in bath. someone else washes it. try be gentle and fast. none of you will enjoy the experience the first time. good luck
