In the past twenty years, I can say that almost every HR person that I have seen has either been a minority or a woman or both. In addition, I have seen very strong REVERSE discrimination taking place, which is still discrimination. But, because there is a lack of qualified women in my field (engineering), then they are targeting engineers from China, Russia, India and other low-wage countries. This is a MAJOR trend at MAJOR companies like Boeing, Chrysler and others.
If there has to be discrimination, at least discriminate in favor of Americans (holders of US passports), so that we can help maintain the standard of living in this country and start making decisions that will start helping the future of this country - like keeping jobs in America instead of shipping them overseas.
You talk about all this discrimination against women, but I don't see it in the workplace - which is fine. I would prefer to have a balanced workplace of men and women - provided, of course, that EVERYONE is qualified for their jobs - men and women.
I have had the misfortune of being an engineer and working under a female manager at Boeing who was neither a degreed engineer, nor even someone who enjoyed talking or thinking about technical matters. She was essentially an overpaid secretary. |

They simply might not want to? There's been tremendous pushing for women to go into the computer and biosciences the past decades, but the actual numbers of girls pursuing it is much less than people expected.
Though there might still be the 'glass ceiling' going on, i think it just takes a certain kind of person to be a businessperson, and most people (male or female) are not cut out for it. |

From my experiences with women..most of them have the ability to turn into a schizophrenic psychopath with out a moments notice. Not all women. Just more than half. It is hard to tell what they might do if they get upset about something. As a shareholder would you want some one with this type of instability handling your money? |

Gender stereotypes. Little girls grow up thinking that jobs like engineers are just for the boys. Little boys grow up thinking jobs like nursing and secretaries and only for the girls. It takes generations of change to erase that kind of programmed stereotyping. It's happening, but slowly. |

In my college, a lot of women are in the engineering classes. Honestly, the ratio of men to women in the classroom of those engineering classes are 1:5 |
