he knew what the computer making companies wanted and that was a software operating system to make using a home computer easy and simple to learn....
he struck a major deal with IBM to develop this operating system which eventually was known as WINDOWS....
Contrary to popular belief... he did not discover or design WINDOWS... he took the idea and program that was rejected elsewhere and further developed that product....
the idea was a success and he eventually landed deal after deal to basically become a computer standard...
and microsoft (after the company went public) made Gates one of the richest men in the world.... |

They cornered the OS market in the early days, used their position to monopolize every market that was likely to turn profitable, and by the time the court system caught up with them they'd made enough money to pay high-profile lawyers to defend them, at least enough to bring the fines down to a point that made the whole thing financially profitable. And they sent countless small-time family businesses bankrupt in the process. From a pure business perspective it was brilliant. |
