How do i calculate in percentage for cost?
sorry but im a bit dumb when it comes to doing maths at clothes stores when they have sales on, how do i calculate the price of an item when its on sale to know the exact price when its not on the tag?

for e.g how much is an item that cost say 7.99 when its on 20% off...how can i easily calculate on a mobile phone etc when im purchasing the item.

thank you!!

Multiply 7.99 by 0.8
(0.8 as that will give you the value when it is at 80% of its original price)

Claire S
20% off means you pay 80% for the item, so on your mobile phone the price would be 7.99x0.8 (0.8 is the decimal version of 80%).

Alternatively, 100/20 is 5, so you take off 1/5 of the price. You can work this out in your head.

Another good tip is to ignore the .99 price and take the price as £8. That way dividing by 5 becomes easier, and you can take 1p off when you have an answer.

For 25% off, that's half and half again taken off, so for £8, half is £4, half again is £2, so you pay £6.

Failing that, the sales staff should be used to calculating the discounts so you can always ask. I used to sell jewellery and got questions about the discounts all the time, which was fine.

You would take the price (7.99) and divide it by 100. Then, multiply that by (100-%) to get the price. Hope this helps, and hope you find those bargains!

If it says 20% of marked price (say 7.99)

What you do is:

OrigPrice* (100-DiscontPercentage)/100

7.99 * (100-20)/100 = 6.39

You could do it in one step if you know how to use your mobile's calculator.

Or in 3 steps:

1) Subtract Percantage Off from 100 (in this case; 100-20 = 80)

2) Divide result by 100 (in this case; 80/100 = 0.8)
3) Multiply the result with price (in this case; 7.99*0.8=6.39)

just type the amount of the price....eg...$50...just simply multiply it by .60 if you want ot get the 60 percent...just put a point before the discount percent..
$50x .10(less 10%)
$50 x . 20( less 20 %)
and up to . 100 for less 100%

hales
it will work out at 1.58

10% of 7.99 = 079p so x that by 2 = 1.58
