Worst case scenario you can try asking your phone service provider to screen private calls.

I use this opportunity to practice my characters, or voices that I mimic. Really Old Guy, Old Chinese lady, non english speaker (with so many languages to choose), sleepy dude, high dude, Indian guy, and so many more. Then I tell them they have the wrong number. Because many of them call from companies you deal with already, credit cards, banks, etc.
Have fun, but don't be too rude! These people are trying to make a living too. |

There are several tactics in ridding yourself of telemarketers, some here that I've used, some not:
-Call display: screen out unknown numbers
-Do Not Call registry
-Tell them they have the wrong number
-Pick up and drop the handset quickly, they'll get the hint
-Tell them you're deceased (my brother did this for me once)
-Answer the phone, let them get a sentence into it, then just never answer (it's hard not to laugh after a while)
-Once you realize who it is, act like your answering machine
Keep in mind that as long as there's been telephones, there's been ways to dodge the telemarketers, but they'll never totally go away. Stay patient and persistent. |

to those who sell newspaper/books: told them you are illiterate or blind
to those who sell travel on cruise: tell them you are always seasick
to those who sell insurance - tell them your spouse is an insurance agent too and whether they are willing to buy from your spouse
be creative and let them feel the rush to get away from you and get anothe more willingr victim |
