There isn't a proven method to stop. I still talk in my sleep, and i still even sleepwalk(allthough mostly I've grown out of this!!). I've done both since I was about 7, and now I'm 26. Good luck. If you find out how to stop, let me know. |

Talking in one's sleep (somniloquy) is considered a normal phenomenon that is of no medical or psychological consequence. If it bothers you or someone that you sleep near, then try to set a schedule (going to bed at the same time each night), never go to bed with a full meal in your belly, try exercises and stretches just before bed time.
If nothing seems to work, get an appointment at a local sleep clinic. Often apnea and other conditions can make sleep talking worse. |

Generally sleeptalking is considered normal, and is pretty much just something you have to live with. Try to be more tired when you go to sleep (do more during the day or stay up later) as that could help you reach a deeper state of sleep. However, sleeping pills or antidepressents are sometimes perscribed for people who sleepwalk if it's a serious problem (like if the sleepwalk out into the street), and I imagine they could work for sleeptalking as it appears to have similar causes (to do with sleep state). You if it's a major problem (maybe if you chatter all night and no one in your house can sleep) you might want to talk to your doctor about it.
Of course, you could always just duct-tape you mouth closed before bed :) |

you need to go to bed when you're really tired. then you'll have more deep sleep and less vivid, lively dreams. so you should talk less. |
